Another walking day. Caught the subway to the top of Manhattan and walked for 3 hours through the streets of Harlem. Is it safe you say? - very much so and the people are very friendly and helpful and proud of their heritage and the Harlem District. We obviously didn't head into the backstreets but what we saw was a variety of magnificent restored homes, beautiful parks, heaps of tiny and large churches and in the modern area lots of cafes and shops. We had a traditional lunch at Sylvia's Soul Food a Harlem institution. Then subway back to Times Square to get Broadway discount tickets to a new musical called Once on tonight.
Once was amazing and very different. Set in Dublin it is a musical love story with lots of Irish "folk music" and the stage is a Dublin bar which the audience can buy drinks at before the show and at interval - before the show the cast come and join the audience on stage for an Irish jam session. Different but we loved it (not a traditional musical so doesn't appeal to everyone)
