Visit to Bath
After working my butt off for 4 nights and 1 afternoon over Easter, we decided to get away for a night to Bath, about an hour and a half's drive from home. I'd been there once with my mum but I thought that Nige really needed to see it. Bath is an amazingly beautiful old city, with the majority of the Georgian buildings made out of Bath stone (a form of limestone). The whole city is actually a World Heritage Site! If you look over central Bath from one of the hilly residential areas, you'll see that it was built in a circular type pattern, so it really is a lovely looking city.
Bath as a city dates way back, with the bath complex itself first being constructed around 100-400AD. A visit to Bath must include a visit to the actual baths, so apart from taking numerous photos, we also found out the history of how the hot springs (46 degrees Celsius) were 'found', and the belief they were the work of gods and therefore the waters had healing powers… In reality however, hot springs can these days be easily explained by science! Either way, it's a really interesting place to visit.
In addition to learning the history of Bath, Nige and I began a mini golf tour there. We located an awesome mini golf course just below the impressive looking Royal Crescent, and so an ongoing challenge of our future travels began - with a victory to me of course!
