Hey everyone. Just got to Granada in Nicaragua. Sorry we haven't written sooner but its been all go. So back to the beginning....we missed our flight in Madrid which was supposed to go Madrid-Miami-San Jose but they managed to put us on a direct flight to Costa Rica instead. It was fantastic getting here 5 hours early but alas with no luggage. David's bag turned up 5 days later in Monte Verde, mine is still missing. I have to tell you all, its so liberating travelling without luggage and much easier to stand the heat and get on and off buses. So after a good nights rest and some yummy nachos we headed off the next day to Arenal to try and catch a glimpse of the volcano. Lucky there was some decent shopping here to keep us going. If there hadn't been I don't think we would have been making too many friends. No great view of the active volcano but we did do a hike around the base and saw a sloth and some tarantulas. In the evening we went to the tabacon hot springs. This place was amazing....like no other springs I had seen before. There weer about 3 streams with about 15 waterfalls in total and the water was HOT. Had a decent feed at the 5 star hotel and another restful nights sleep. The next day we got the jeep-boat-jeep (or rather taxi-boat-taxi...yes we were jipped on that one) across the arenal lake and along a very bumpy road to Santa Elena near the Monte Verde reserve. The rainforest here is beautiful. Very dense and magical. Did a canopy tour of the rainforest which entailed zipping along 15 flying fox wires...some of which were about half a kilometer long. It was awesome! Did some rain forest walks and saw toucans, parrots, monkeys and another sloth. Our guide was called David (can you believe I forgot his name) and he was a pure professional. He had done a biology degree in the US and came back to his home town to guide in the rainforest. He had a very expensive telescope which was great to take pictures through. Bought some very expensive clothes in this town now knowing I should be able to claim it all back on travel insurance. 3 days later we headed to Ometepe Island. 4 buses, 3 taxis and a boat later we arrived in another paradise. This island is made up of 2 perfectly conical volcanos. And this time we could see all the way to the top. Did an island tour and swam in the springs and the lake. The springs was called Oros de Agua (eye of the water) and was the clearest chrystal blue water and amzingly refreshing. The fish on the island is divine...very fresh Tilapia. But I am craving nachos again. 2 days later we are back on the mainland in Nicaragua and took a very easy bus ride to Granada. Some of the old ladies even offered to give up their seats on the baus for David when they saw his still poorly arm. They tell us Granada is very romantic city so we are off to check it out right now and find some nachos. Take care everyone. We will try and load some photos a little later. Bisous Crena and David
