After the bright lights of San Francisco we headed for the more tranquil setting of Yosemite National Park.
We were slightly delayed (by 3hours!!!) by the incompetent car rental place, where we joined forces with some fellow Brits to complain en-masse! But all ended well as our "Compact" car got upgraded to a Toyota Rav4.
When we were finally on our way the drive to Yosemite was worth the wait, traversing through the mountains into the valley. Suprisingly Yosemite was dry, so the waterfalls and lakes we had been expecting were empty. Still pretty impressive though! Also stopped off to look at the Giant Redwood trees in the park and hiked a couple of trails.
Next we headed back to the coast to start our journey down Highway 1 where we have so far stopped at Santa Cruz, Monteray Bay and checked out Pebble Beach Golf course before we head to the Big Sur later today.
The views from Highway 1 are breathtaking and hopefully some of the photos will upload in time for you to see! I can't say it feels like we are true backpackers yet as a week in to our trip and all our hotels/motels have been pretty good including last nights room having an oversized jacuzzi!!
We are currently in the town library of Carmel (where Clint Eastwood was the mayor) trying to upload our photos.
