We have just finished our cruise of the Galapagos. We had a really great time. Our boat, Yolita, was small but clean and comfortable. Our cabin was tiny with narrow bunk beds. There wasn´t room for two of us to stand up at any one time. But once we got used to the constant sound of the engine and the swaying it was fine.
We started off by going to the highlands of Santa Cruz, the main island, to see giant tortoises in their natural habitat. Then we saw some lava tubes: long underground tunnels where lava flowed after past volcanic eruptions. That night the boat set of to Rabida island where we explored and then went snorkeling. That afternoon we snorkeled off Sombrero Chino, an island shaped like a hat, where we saw lots of penguins. We managed to swim with them which was amazing! Saw a few sharks too.
The next day we went to Bartolome. We got up at 6am to climb to the top of the island to see the lava formations. The view was stunning. After breakfast we went snorkeling (again!): saw loads of big sharks and sting rays. Was a little frightening (actually a lot frightening). There was some massive starfish and lots of colourful tropical fish. A baby sea lion would not leave us alone. He kept diving around us wanting to play. That afternoon we went to a place called Turtle Cove and watched the sea turtles (very hard to photograph, they just wouldn´t keep still).
This morning we again got up at 6am and walked around North Seymour island. We saw male frigate birds with massive red pouches on their throats, and blue-footed boobies.
