We are loving the Galapagos. Everywhere you look there are amazing animals. Have spent half of our time underwater! On our first day we went to Tortuga Bay to swim and sunbathe. The marine iguanas were a bit of a shock at first - massive creatures sunning themselves on the beach and on the rocks. We also went to the Charles Darwin Research Centre and saw giant tortoises, including Lonesome George. He is the last one of his species and will not mate with any other kind of tortoise. He looks so sad.
We went snorkeling off Santa Cruz island and I spotted a turtle and also a shark. This was the first time I had seen a shark and I was petrified. We also had a scary encounter with about 6 big sea lions lined up looking at us. We made a hasty retreat.
We have spent the last two nights on Isla Isabela, one of the ´newest´ islands, and the most volcanically active. It was the last volcano on the islands to erupt - 2 years ago. We saw one flamingo and some tortoises. We went horse riding along a volcanic crater. There was steam rising from some of the craters. It looked like the surface of the moon with the odd cactus.
We did more snorkeling off Isabela and saw penguins! They were so sweet. Craig saw a big shark circling under us. Luckily I missed that one.
