Hey all,
This weekend we went to Llanberis (pronounced Clanberis). We went by train to Llanberis, about 4 or 5 our ride and then by bus, another 40 minutes, to Llanberis. There was a delay on one of our trains so we got there later than we wanted. When we first arrived we searched for our hotel and walked needlessly up a giant hill. After we found it we went and walked around Padarn lake and then walked up to the castle. The stairs were scarier than the ones at Blarney. After all of that we found some food and went back to the hotel and watched tv. One of the guys that works there brought us in some dvd's to watch and lit the fireplace for us.
On Saturday we hiked up to the waterfall. It was really pretty up there. The guy at the hostel told us if we hiked up above the waterfall we would find smaller waterfalls...we did! On our way back up to the road I went back the way I came and Craig thought it was to big of a step so he went back another way and stepped on what he thought was rock, but it turned out to be leaves just covering a deep puddle of water so he got his shoes, socks, and pants wet! After the waterfall we walked around the town a little bit. We got something to eat from the grocery store and went and ate back at the hostel. After lunch we decided we would hike up Snowden Mountain. The path wasn't bad but going up a constant hill made my heart beat pretty fast and irritated my astma a little. We took frequent breaks though. It was a fun hike and I'm glad we hiked up. There were very pretty views. When we came back down we went to the Snowden Honey Farm, which had been recommended to us by our friends. The guy there was really nice and remembered our friends. We had some free tastes of wine...he would have let us try all 30 but i'm not sure we would have been able to walk home after that. We bought a small bottle of their mead wine (mead means made with honey). I have never tasted a wine I liked but the few flavors we did try were all good. We had some hot chocolate their too. And again, because everything closed down in Llanberis at 5:00p.m. or earlier we went back to the hostel to watch some tv and relax in front of the fireplace.
On Sunday we went to the Welsh Slate Museum. It was an interesting place, more interesting than it sounds anyway. We watched a slate splitting demonstration, which didn't last very long because it is apparently really easy to split welsh slate. We were told that welsh slate is the only slate that splits that easy. The museum was really interesting. There were some neat things in the gift shop as well but they were all really expensive. After the museum we got some food for our trip back and headed home. About every train we got on was delayed but that was okay because we had about hour long waits between each stop without delays so it evened out our wait time.
It was so pretty in Llanberis. It had snowed on the tops of the mountains. It rained and sleeted a little all weekend. It was a really nice trip!
Love,
Craig and Audrey
