Hey all,
We went to Amsterdam this past week. We left on Wednesday and returned on Saturday morning. We traveled by bus to and from the airport and took a plane to Amsterdam. It was about a one hour plane ride. Amsterdam is really pretty. There are a lot of canals and bridges. It rained for pretty much the entire time on Thursday and then not so bad on Friday. We got in late on Wednesday so we didn't do anything but find our hotel and go to bed.
We went to the Anne Frank House first on Thursday. It was very interesting to see the house they hid in and the secret bookcase that moved to reveal their hiding place. After the Anne Frank House we went to find something to eat and then went to the Rembrandt House. Rembrandt's house was really interesting to go through. They also had a gallery of some of his work which was cool to see too. Next we went to the Heineken Experience, which is all about the brewing of beer and the history of heineken. We both had a lot of fun here. They gave you tokens to get free drinks of either Heineken or Coke. They gave you three free drinks throughout the place and a souvenier at the end, which was a bottle opener. There were a lot of interactive things to do. It was a lot of fun! After that we went to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe and then booked an evening boat tour on the canals. On our boat tour we saw all of Amsterdam via the canals. We went through the red light district amongst other things during the ride. It lasted about 90 minutes and was a fun way to see the city. After that we called it quits and went to the hotel to go to bed.
On Friday we went to Artis. Artis is a park that for 16 euro you can go to the zoo, the planetarium, geological museum, the aquarium, and the zoological museum. This was a lot of fun. We love zoos. We thought they had wolves but we couldn't find them. They had racoons in the zoo, which we thought was funny. We spent between five and six hours at this park. It was a lot of fun. After the park we got something to eat and walked around Dam Square for awhile and did some souvenier shopping. We then went to the Van Gogh Museum. It was cool to see some of his work. From there we went back to the hotel.
Amsterdam was kind of expensive. Everything we did was at least 10 euro each and there were no student discounts, even though there websites say they do. We both liked Amsterdam a lot, I just wish it was a little cheaper. Oh well...It was still lots of fun.
Love,
Craig and Audrey
