Study Abroad
Hey All,
A group of 15 of us went to Cork, Ireland this past weekend. We left on Thursday and got back on Sunday. We took a ferry. It took 10 hours to get to Cork from Swansea. It was cheap...thats about the only good thing about it. They had no blankets and pillows for us like they said they would so we had to sleep on the cold floor. The ride was kinda rough...it made me sick.
Cork is a really pretty city. We arrived Friday morning and went on a walking tour with a map that the front desk at our hostel gave us. It took us around to all the sights and landmarks in cork. After that and grabbing a bite to eat we all went back and took a nap...since we all didn't sleep to well on the boat.
After our nap we went and grabbed supper and then we all went out to a bar where they brew their own beer. It was one of our friend's 21st birthday. I didn't like the beer but they had a pear cider that was really good. We all tried to go to an 80's bar but most of us couldn't get in because we were wearing tennis shoes...oh well. We decided to just go to bed.
On Saturday we all took a bus tour out to Blarney Castle and the Blarney Stone. The castle was really cool to see. The steps up to the stone were a little scary. We all bent over backwards to kiss the blarney stone...with hopes of being bestowed eloquent speech...as the tale goes. After the castle we went to a town called Kinsale, one of Ireland's oldest towns. We had dinner there and walked around a bit before going out to Charles Fort. It was built in 1677 and it overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. This fort is shaped like a pentagon and is where the US got the idea for our pentagon building. There was a great view there and it was neat to look around the fort.
After all of that we were taken back to our hostel. We went shopping for an hour or so until it was time to get on the bus that took us to the ferry. We got home around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Classes start on Monday!
Love,
Craig and Audrey
