The album of Karvoly Vary actually includes all the pictures of the trip when my sister came to visit in late September. We had some trouble meeting....actually many troubles. My cell phone wouldnt work so I had no contact when she arrived at the airport. Also, the subway closed down early so I had to take a tram...where I managed to get lost at 2 am in the morning and had to call a taxi for fear of something worse happening. But, we safely met and finally got home very late.
Because of my ankle, when my sister came in town I wanted to visit a place that wouldnt be too demanding, so we chose a small natural springs town called Karlovy Vary. I have never traveled on a train in a foreign country before now, so it was a very interesting experience. On the way there, we had to switch trains which became increasingly difficult as we realized no one spoke English. After many discussions and a cab ride we made it and got to relax.
It was a very quaint town, very touristy, and very pretty. The most odd thing we discovered became apparent when we tried to go bathing in the natural hot springs....because no one bathing...actually drinking the water! So we were confused but ending up trying some and it was very salty, but it was supposed to have healing powers so I figured why not maybe it could heal my leg. We also took a funicular to the top of a viewing tower where we took the picture above. We tried to get a message and get in a spa because that was one of the popular things to do in the city, but we ran out of time and it was too expensive.
All in all, it was a good trip and very relaxing(good for my foot). I think Sarah had fun too as she got to see some things that people that only visited Prague wouldnt be able to see. Oddly enough, to end the trip, there was more confusion with transportation and we ended up having to get off the train, get on a bus, and then get back another train....oh yeah, and nobody spoke english.
After returning to Prague, we visited the tourist sites that Sarah was interested in and I had only seen briefly...actually going in to St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague Castle and going up the tower at Petrin Hill...so they were new to me as well. We ate at a nice restaraunt overlooking the Vtlava river and then later we tried a local pub, and randomly picking off the menu(it was in Czech), I found myself with a giant plate of BBQ ribs...which I almost immediately dropped on my shirt. I still have the shirt. All in all a great trip...too bad Sarah had to go back to work.
