The down time of Nepal is certainly much more fun at the moment than the volunteering side of things!!! I have now lost track of the amount of times I have been offerred Tiger balm, massages and Hash!!! I think everyone I have met here so far, obviously look slike the type of person that is in desperate need of these things!!
SO placesthat I have visited so far include:
The Monkey temple... so Becca and I follow the map, and our noses, to the temple, where we have to cross the smelliest river EVER to get there. Becca is a typical tourist but actually manages to communicate and point at the map with the Nepalese peeps, to find our way to the bottom. Here we find a million and one steps to get to the top.
We fight with the locals and our breath to actually manage to get to the top. Where Becca finds me almost passed out and needing much water! The view form the top is totally worth it though! The first propper sights or Nepal come from here.
The temple is being prepared for Budha's birthday and it look scompletely different when all the metal has been polished which is cool.
A wish pond and Becca's attempts to throw some coins are to be desired!!
The walk down the steps is a lot bloody easier than the way up!! But we just have to dodge the monkeys in our way
Budha's Brithday is apparently a time to celebrate! SO we head to Boudha Stupa for this where its pretty crazy... its a case of fight the Nepali people and use your elbows to find your way through!
Its a pretty amazing Stupa though and pictures will follow. I cant teally say much else to describe this one!!
Pachupatinath is a beautiful yet depressing place. A place where cremations take place and local and tourists can go and watch the ceremonies. These can take hours and the family mourners are obviously present. Once the bodies have been cremated, the ashes are brushed in to the river. It is not a shock to see children and other's, routing through the water to find any jewlery/ worthy belongings of those that have been cremated, that they may be able to sell/use.
Again the sights from the top of the temple's are amazing and watching the sunset was pretty cool too. The only thing taht wasnt good here was being hungry and having to smell the cremations.. sick I know, but honest!! Only I could be hungry at a time like this!
