Last night was great! We ate at the Riverside restaurant, as recommended to us by our new Australian friend Kim. We shared starters and both had fillet steak with pepper sauce which came to £16 for both us! How cheap?? And it tasted amazing..... As the name suggests, the restaurant was at the river side, so had a great view, and there was live music too. We both said we could live in Chiang Mai, we love it!! We had a slow walk back to the hotel, through the market, planning the shopping for tonight.... On the way we were trying to cross a road, and a tuk tuk Driver passing pointed out that there was a pelican crossing. So I pressed the button and the lights changed for us almost instntly, which we were imprrssed with, not that that bothered the drivers. I nearly got ran over by a tuk tuk and shouted at him that the light was on green for us and he shouted sorry as he flew down the road which I thought was polite.... At the hotel we asked for directions to the Reggae bar, where we'd arranged to meet our new friends. He said it was a rooftop bar that was quite close so we started walking. We got very lost, ending up down some backstreets and going round in circles. As we got back on to the main road, we luckily bumped in to the Canadian guys coming out of a bar. The five of us got in a tuk tuk, which was a squeeze as they comfortably sit two, three at a push. It wasn't comfortable, but was really funny, I was hanging on for dear life around corners! We got to the place, (which wasn't a rooftop bar, or close at all!) and ordered some drinks at Zoe in Yellow just round the corner while we waited for the Australian family. When they arrived, we went to the Reggae bar and started on the buckets.... We had mojito first, but there was an unbelievable amount of sugar layered on the bottom, so we started drinking vodka, redbull and sangsom, which is the local rum. It was tasty! After a few buckets, we decided to go for a dance! Kim, who's 47, decided we needed to dance on the tables before we left, so all 11 of us had a dance on the tables for one song, we must have looked a sight! We went to a bar just around the corner and had a dance, we had an amazing time! When the club closed, we lost most of the group, so there was just me, Si, Kim and her daughter Kate who turns 18 in a week. We were chatting for a while, about half an hour, then decided to walk home. We dropped Kim and Kate off at their hotel at 5.00am. I have no idea where the time went! We started to walk back to the hotel, and soon realised we had no idea where we were and we were very lost! So we flagged down a tuk tuk who took us back to the hotel, it was getting light it was that late. We had a great night though, and we exchanged email addresses so that we can share pictures of us on the elephants! Yay! We're off to see the tigers now, see you soon! Emma x
Well, we just got back from seeing the tigers!... Just OH MY AMEZEN!!..... We absolutely loved every second of it, starting with the babies literally months old and still so big,... They were so much fun, I really did want one!...... There must have been around 6 cubs, all beautiful and growing fast. We moved onto the mid sized ones which were 7 months old and the size of a husky, I mean they were huge. These guys were more fun, play fighting and having a go at football,.. they looked so full of energy and just by touching them you could feel how powerful they were..,, we actually hired a photographer which cost £14 with a CD each holding around 100 photos, a must!.. I also had my camera which another guy used, so we made sure we had plenty of evidence... We did notice whilst waiting that in the one pen, two of the bigger cats were play fighting in the water and they were making massive splashes, surprising to see a cat enjoying jumping around in the waters,... But looked ace!.... I just didn't want to leave.... But we had one last place to visit..... The BIG cats!... And I mean they were bigger than both me and Emma... They definitely knew it... These guys were more chilled, eating trees and plants and not at all phased by our presence.... But we managed to get up close and personal, I mean like heads on their belly's close.. It was ace... I'm still smiling now and we left about 2 hours ago... It was good to see how well they were looked after, even if some of the customers were a little impatient... We had a brill time and would definitely recommend it to anyone that visits Chiang Mai!... Brilliant experience... Anyway, just getting ready to pop out for our last authentic Thai feast and then to hit the markets for a last minute splurge before heading back to Bangkok tomorrow to pick up my finished suit and check into the Banyan Tree, a 5 star finish to what has been an trip of a life time!....
Peace and love
