First things first in a B&B after the first night. Breakfast! Full English is the only way to go; satisfying, filling and an appropriate treat for a staycation.
The first full day of any holiday for us is about getting our bearings and exploring. We went down to Torquay Harbour and discovered that the Rotary Club had a fete with stalls and dancers dressed in 1920s outfits boogying away. Such a great atmosphere.
The weather was a little chilly but as we were 'off exploring' it was totally fine :)
Lunch involved our first Devon Cream Tea at Banx Bar (https://m.facebook.com/banx.cafe.bar?_rdr)
Considering we were at a bar, the cream tea was really tasty and a lovely surprise. We had tried to go to one of the more authentic tea shops but they were all closed on a Sunday.
We did a vast amount of walking but fully got our bearings. It's a nice town centre with a wide variety of shops and some interesting looking independent places. The shops are all quite small but probably enough to live with if you lived here.
Our first touristy act was to visit the Living Coasts (http://www.livingcoasts.org.uk). It's a wonderful place to spend a few hours and I think kids would love it. The enclosures were brilliant and incredibly well thought out. I've never seen an aviary so large where the birds could really fly.
The penguins were great and you get really close. The furry seals were also very cool. There was a baby who was being hand reared but she must have been being fed when we were there so we missed her.
The otters were adorable and were playing with little pebbles, rolling them up their paws, letting them drop back down, catching the pebble again just to roll it back up their paws. So cute!
It was a really good few hours and I would recommend it highly. We bought tickets that also gave entry to Paignton Zoo and saved us about 20%. Paignton is next on the list for tomorrow!
Dinner was a nice and easy Harvester (http://m.harvester.co.uk/restaurants/harvesterbeaconquaytorquay/) as there is one right next to the Living Coasts. We sat upstairs on the terrace and whilst the menu was smaller, the food was good.
After such a busy day, it is back to the B&B for a chilled and relaxed evening.
