Nice was so much fun! But it was pretty amazing that we even made it considering everyone was trying to get home for Christmas. At the train station in Paris we were told that it was going to be impossible to get to Nice and that if we wanted to book the train it was going to be over 200 euros. Which we were not about to pay to take a train when we already had our Eurail passes. We have actually told a lot of people about that and they said that it was probably him trying to take advantage of us. So we were pretty worried at that point that is just wasn't going to happen. That morning we went to Versailles to see the palace. Which was pretty amazing. I am finally glad I made it! Last time I didn't get to see it because it was closed. So on with the train story we ended up asking the conductor of another train going in the right direction if we could get on and he let us, so needless to say we ended up making it but it took a long time. There has been lots of bad weather we have caught on this trip. Its been snowing and such so the rail system was not set up to take that much snow.
But in Nice we ended up taking a train to Monaco the first night and walked around getting to the Prince's Palace of Monaco and we got to see the changing of the guard which Elliott realllllly wanted to see. After that he went in the museum and saw a lot of collections of old Napoleon. Then we walked to the Casino area but on the way we walked through the harbor which the multi, multi million dollar ships which were pretty amazing. We also tasted something called Socca. Which reminds me of hot soft frittos, which we were told that you should only enjoy hot once its cold its not that tasty anymore. Elliott and I have decided that its not our favorite thing in the world.
The next day in Nice we went and walked around saw the "castle" and walked to the very top. Then we told a bus to a little medieval town called St. Paul. Elliott just loved it. There was lots of shops and old walls and churches galore. Its funny because I keep asking him if he has seen enough Maddonna and Child paintings? I think now he has, but the even funnier part is that we are not even to Rome yet....
After the St. Paul we went back and got lost in the town and got lost in the pouring rain. It actually took us days to recover our clothes and shoes were sooo wet.
Then we got on a train and headed to the Italian boarder. We almost didn't make it again, but we finally did make it to Milan.
