So arrived in Airlie after an 11hr bus journey. Got talking to a really nice Irish girl, Orla, who was staying at Airlie Waterfront Backpackers and as we hadn't booked anywhere to stay we went along with her to see if they had availability. Luckily they had and as we booked our Whitsunday's sailing trip and our Fraser Island self drive we got our two nights accommodation for free! Went for some lunch with Orla and discovered there was yet another Lagoon to park our towels and get in some sunbathing. Headed there that afternoon. Cooked pasta for tea in an attempt to save some money. The next day we decided to go shopping and couldn't hide our excitement when we discovered a Jay Jay's and Cotton On ended up buying a few necessary items then headed back down to the Lagoon. Our trip wasn't until Friday so we had some time to chill out. After lots of relaxing in the sun we got another early night in preparation for our sailing trip and on Friday we set off for a few days at sea. Our boat was the Boomerang which used to be a racing boat and it had a very colourful crew, particularly Max, a ginger Aussie with a crazy sense of humour and a massive passion for sailing. For the rest of the afternoon we just sailed out to sea looking at all the surrounding islands and just as the sun was setting on one side of the boat the moon was rising on the other. It was really beautiful. We dropped the anchor there and had a lovely dinner preapred by Erin the boat's cook. Some people went for an early night but we decided to stay up and enjoy our first taste of goon - a cheap wine basically - so as we drank that we listened to some music and talked to our fellow sailors. Some people didn't appreciate our music but it was still early and those of us still up were in the mood for a party! However, it didn't last long and we all crashed at about 1am. As the boat was air con free it was pretty hot in the hold so I decided to sleep on deck whilst Sarah took the bed in the cabin. We got woken at 6am by the skipper starting the motor and that was the start of our day in the Whitsundays.
We motored to Whitehaven Beach which was absolutely beautiful. Blue water and white sand everywhere. We spent the morning on the beach sunbathing and swimming in the sea although we had to wear wetsuits to protect us from getting stung! We saw lots of stingrays but managed to stay a good distance away from them!Got picked up by the speed boat and headed back over to the Boomerang for lunch. Discovered we were a tad burnt as therewasn't much shade on the beach. After lunch we went snorkelling and saw some very pretty fishes and coral. Had a relaxing afternoon sailing and then anchored up for the night. We both decided to sleep in the cabin that night and as the beds were so small we ended up having to top and tail which Dave the skipper found highly amusing for some reason. The next day we sailed back to Airlie and as soon as we got to the Marina we walked over to the Lagoon and got straight in it.Really enjoyed our shower that evening as the ones on the boat were pretty much non existent - we only got thirty seconds each!! Later on we caught the bus to Hervey Bay for our next adventure!!
