EUROPE TRAVELS
This update comes from Madrid.
Em and arrived 2 nights ago. It was a quick flight from Lisbon, only about 50 minutes, but with all the hoohaa it always is getting to airports in loads of time and waiting to collect baggage it felt like it took us all day. Anyway, we were most pleased with Veuling airlines (Spanish airlines). They were cheap and way better than Ryan Air & Easy Jet.
Managed to catch the metro (underground service) to our hostel. nice and easy as we are well practiced with the tube in london. Great hostel. We had only booked a six bed shared room but managed to get a room to ourselves with our own bathroom! we get brecky too, even includes real coffee!
had a nice dinner when we arrived... it was actually all meat! realised how much we'd missed it. The waitress managed to decipher the Spanish menu for us. There was an unfamiliar looking sausage on our plate, we both tasted a bit and then decided to ask what was in it! Well... yes.. it did contain blood and who knows what else!
The Spanish speak much better English here in Madrid, so our Spanish isn't exactly improving. The city is very clean, lots of trees and gardens as well as many old, large buildings. It appears to be very well kept.
Tomorrow the plan is to look through the palace and maybe the cathedral. We're hoping to catch a Flamenco performance in the evening. On our last day we're hoping to meet up with 2 kiwi girls that we met up with on one of our bus trips.
