So.....we arrived back in Victoria on Tuesday arvo. Hannah Clover came over to the Higgs' for dinner with us. Mary works more-or-less full-time, but Hannah works part-time being a school student. Both of them have seasonal jobs that give them extra work over the Christmas - New Year period, so getting time with both of them was sometimes tricky. Moses thinks it is fun to say "Han-na" and Hannah is so chuffed.
Wednesday we opted for a quiet day in. Both the little boys had colds, and needed the rest (and not going out in the cold!). After all our late nights up chatting, and making the most of the days, we didn't mind a quiet day either. Mary came for tea that night, which was nice too, just chatting and...updating the blog.
Thursday we wanted to go and do something, take the kids out. We had a few options, but where Silas really wanted to go was back to the "maquarium" where he went with Shane and Tyler for Shane's birthday. As anything outdoors was not an option (it was drizzling) off we went. It was really nice because Silas was so excited to show us everything! It's not a big aquarium like ours, but it's cheaper and has about the right amount of stuff with little kids. It's all local sea creatures and had a touchpool area where the kids could use one finger to touch starfish, seacucumbers, etc. The sea anemomes were popular with Silas, because if you touched them with your finger they would "hug" you with their soft tentacles.
Thursday night we went to bible class. As we were about to leave U Mike McStravick was saying that there was forecast snow overnight and joked about me staying up all night to see it. Then we all walked out the doors and it was snowing already! There was a light shining in the carpark, and Silas was running around under the light in the snow saying "Snow! Snow!" and throwing his arms up, jumping and laughing in delight. It was priceless to see. He was so happy to be in the snow! Everybody had a smile and a laugh watching him.
Friday Jonathan took Jonathan outside in the snow at the Higgs' - there was about 10cm that had fallen overnight. As it was raining it was going to melt fast! So Jonathan helped Silas make a snowman litke he wanted! Silas had read a book about snow, and wanted to make a snowman called Ned, with a carrot for a nose, to smell the carrot! Aunty Cindy obliged with the carrot as well as hat and gloves. He was so thrilled. That night and the next day we had to go and keep checking if he was still there (delighted if we was) because Silas was worried about the sun coming out and him melting into a puddle, like in the snow book. Truth was it was very unlikely the sun was going to come out... Then later in the day Jonathan and I went out to Simon Manor to visit Aunty Joan, Jonathan's great-aunt. She is now 93 and has lived at Simon Manor for only a few years. Simon Manor is a cross between a nursing home and Hermon Village. The building has lots of very small units (kitchen, dining, living in one room and then a bedroom and bathroom off it) and is a Christadelphian home. I don't know if there is another entrance, but to visit most people park at the hall because the doors to the foyer open in the hall direction and their is a short footpath to walk up, the hall fence is open for a few metres to enter the Manor. This means that the people who live there can walk over to meeting and classes wherever possible. They also have radio kind of listening devices so they can listen in to the classes and things they don't make it to. It is really nice, when we were leaving we came out and about four people were having tea together in the open area of the foyer. So we got chatting to all of them as well, seeing as they are all from the meeting! Oma and Opa, do you remember Aunty Pat Williamson? You came for tea at our house with her when she came over a few years back. She asked how you were and said to send her love! She was having tea with the others too ;)
Friday night we went to Uncle Harold and Aunty June Causten's for dinner and a reading. They are Aunty Cindy's parents and both have a great sense of humour! Uncle Harold is also one of the few brothers in Victoria who know a lot about prophecy. Prophecy is a topic usually avoided by the ecclesia in general, too controversial. He is doing an adult Sunday school class on Daniel though, and what I heard the one week was excellent.
Dave and Kess decided to come for the day on Saturday, so the day was fairly free....only Tycen got a vomiting bug so that got cancelled! So we had a day to get a bit organised to leave and go to the shops for necessary snacks and items for our trip!
Sunday Silas went to Sunday school with U Geoff and A Cindy while we stayed home and finished packing the car with the little boys. Silas learnt about Noah and the ark, and inisited that their were monsters in the ark. We got so cross telling him there were NOT, Jonathan had to tell him he didn't want to hear it any more!
After the meeting we said all our goodbyes and then headed off to catch the 2pm ferry. It wasn't too full and we got lunch there. We managed to get on a bigger ferry with quite a few play areas, so the kids burnt off lots of energy running around - YAY - before the car trip really began......
