Well alittle further update from yesterday!Got organised, did my picnic shopping for my whopper bus ride , pick up laundry and headed back in plenty of time to the hotel to get a taxi to the station.'I don't think so love, you are going to have to walk as all the roads are closed for the carnival. well, there we go, the nightmare of it goes on. I head off dragging all my bits and pieces down the little narrow streets of Witches Lane until I come across a group of about 30 year olds ready and poised. They literally threw a bucket of water over me laughing as they did. You can imagine my reaction.. 'come on they howled alittle abit of 'allegria'. I don't think so i bellowed back..thank you very much, I've got to travel 15 hours with foam in my hair and soaking wet. The fun went on...i got watered on and foamed at so many times. Everyone seems to find it hiliarious the idea of getting a 'foreigner'. I swear I arrived at the bus station after an uphill hike stressed, wet, puffing for breath and completely exsaperated! a quick change, more off a frantic search for dry clothes , forget the matching just threw on layers for the bus journey and headed on board.
My ipod was a saviour, the journey went quickly. We stopped at a very dodgy diner at the side of a road for dinner at 10. I shared my picnic with a friendly english guy i had got chatting to, Steve. Everything was to a tight schedule, we were back on board in 25mins to be greeted by a freaky film about some vampire attacking a group of kids on a bus. Excellent choice of film!how appropriate. When Rocky 3 came on after 11 , i plugged in the Ipod and drifted off to Norah Jones. I actually slept besides a brief interval around 1.30 until 5. It's amazing what position you can get yourself into sleep in!
I woke at 5.30 to be greeted with a whole new landscape, different shades and colours and so reminiscent of Northern Argentina.. red and grey shades of rock, sparse and full of cactus. I remained transfixed. After a serious bumpy ride we arrived in Tupiza two hours later. I had booked a 4 day tour starting tomorrow to discover the surrounding area and the salt deserts. When I went to pay earlier, I was told that tomorow is a National Holiday so to prevent accidents, the police have banned travelling. well, more honestly placed a tax on travelling which the agency don't want to pay! Maybe we should try that tactic. a quick way of solving things, no where go anywhere! So tomorrow is going to be for doing some walks in the surrounding hills. Steve, the guy from the bus seems a keen walker so I think i'll leave the planning to him. We're going to Pizzeria Napoli in abit for dinner. Claudia, it is nothing like the pizza in Naples!! XXX
