My patience are wearing thin.. the internet is really slow and someone just tried to charge me for changing a note into smaller notes. I mean really!I just looked at her and said in spanish ' are you joking??!!. Bolivians just seem to either stare at you blankly ' i don't know' or they try and fleece you. I just laugh with taxis, i got one back from the station earlier. I had 7 bolivians in my hand as i had paid to go which is the going rate. He turned smiling and said 12. I smiled back and said here's 7 like I paid the last time! do they think tourist are bloody fools!! okay enough of a rant!
It probably hasn't helped either that i have got fired at twice this morning with water guns. What a weekend to come to La Paz!Its carnival and the city is manic, bodies and cars everywhere and i mean everywhere!I am such a spoil sport!! I tend to glare at them meaning to say ' do you think I find this funny"!!i suppose at least i didnt' get fired at with shaving foam, another favourite of theirs!
We arrived Friday evening by bus at 6 ( rush hour) but i think to be honest it would of been the same at any time. I don't know how he managed it but our bus driver managed to pull in alittle in the midst of stalls, costumes, screaming children and stressed tourists! Not a bus station in sight we were just dumped there ,on the side of a street, fend for yourself and see if you can get out!
Yesterday before heading in the direction of the masses I headed to the Coca Museum. As you may know Coca, yes the leaf from which cocaine is extracted is used everywhere here to overcome altitude sickness. Coca tea,Coca Sweets and even the leaves themselves are available eveywhere. To the andeans they are sacred, used for thanksgiving and in most cermonies. It was very interesting to trace its origions and many uses. As a natural anaesthetic and used in the first production of Coca Cola in 1885. Very interestingly to note as well the adverse effects it had on the spanish when they first conquered. Although the locals have used it for centuries , for the spanish it brought 'madness to the minds' and hardness to their hearts. Like anything used excess it causes damage. I had a chew the other day when i was hiking up to the temple on amiranti as i had a wicked headache. It did the trick nicely!!
i'm giving up with this computer. It takes two seconds to react so everytime I type it takes ages to apper, Basta! and guess what i have to look forward to a 15 hour bus ride. Yes I am heading south at 4 arriving at Tupiza at 8am tomorrow morning.Say a prayer i don't get robbed!
lots of love Clod XX
