My last few days in New Zealand have been pretty relaxed.
My last day in Christchurch, I went to the International Antarctic Centre. It's mainly for kids but it was still really interesting to find out about what life is like there. The best thing about the centre is the penguin feeding sessions that they have. The centre has rescued Little Blue Penguins from the wild and looks after them. It was awesome watching them swimming around and stuff.
That night I went to 'Le Plonk' wine bar, where I sat with my NZ Sauvignon Blanc, reading and listening to the live jazz band that were playing. Love it!
I flew from Christchurch to Wellington, which was awesome! Because it was such a short flight, you didn't go too high and you saw everything. The Southern Alps look even more impressive from above. The Cook Strait is really impressive too.
I got the bus into Central Wellington, where I met friends from before and we went to Fidels - brilliant cafe! I spent my time in Wellington shopping, in coffee shops, in bars and basically just chilling out with friends. I love Wellington, so glad I visited again. I arrived to catch the overnight bus to Auckland an hour early (silly me got the times ALL mixed up!) and I was really sad to leave.
The next morning I arrived in Auckland at 7am, it was still dark and I was a wee bit lost so I went and had a cup of tea in the nearest coffee shop I could see. When it was light again, I realised my hostel was actually just down the road, clever! After checking in and dumping my stuff, I got the ferry out to Devonport. Lonely Planet describes it as a "quaint, little suburb" and it is that. It's adorable. It was a yucky rainy day but I went for breakfast in a nice little cafe recommended to me by a friend. Then I climbed to the summit of Mt Victoria - one of Auckland's many volcanoes. It was so rainy I couldn't see anything but by the time I was at the top of North Head, the one next to it, the views were incredible!
I took my time wandering along the many beaches and got the ferry back to the city, where I went to see "The Incredible Hulk" at Sky City. Go watch it, it's awesome!
This morning, I went to Vulcan Lane for breakfast and did a spot of shopping. It's weird to think I only have a few hours left in New Zealand, having been here for so long!
I'm off to catch the bus to the airport (I've triple-checked the time of my flight!) Los Angeles here I come!
Photos are a bit behind, I'll update them soon as.
