Well that's our wee roadtrip over! From Queenstown we drove on up to my favourite town in New Zealand - Wanaka! It's adorable, the town is right on the lake front and surrounded by the Mt Aspiring range of snow-capped mountains - I love it there! We checked in to the Purple Cow backpackers and in true 'Clare, Clare and Andrew' style, went out for coffee. That evening we went to the Paradiso cinema to lie on the comfy sofas and watch 'The Bucket List' - it was a really good movie, but I cried way too much! The freshly made cookies were amazing and the whole thing was so good that we went back the next night to watch 'Lars and the Real Girl' - very strange but enjoyable movie.
From Wanaka, we travelled up the west coast stopping at the Fox Glacier for photos and the Lake Matheson walkway. We stayed the night in Sir Cedrics backpackers in Franz Josef - they have free soup!!
Then onto Greymouth - there's not very much to do there, but the hostel, Global Village was awesome! One of the best yet. Clare and Andrew did a bit of kayaking while I went for a wee wander... and a smoothie. That night we went to the Monteiths (local beer) brewery tour, tasting and barbeque. I'm not the biggest fan of beer, but it was still a good night. We found out you can actually buy it back home in Waitrose supermarkets.
The drive from Greymouth to Kaikoura was a long and winding one. We all had a wee turn driving and arrived just in time for the pub. Kaikoura is a really nice little fishing town where you can see whales, dolphins and seals, but to be honest we didn't really do very much as we were all so tired. This is where Clare has been working for the past wee while before our trip and you could tell why, it's so pretty!
The drive through Northern Canterbury to get to Christchurch was amazing. There was snow everywhere!! We had to stop in a little town just for a snowball fight. It's unbelievable, feels like Christmas!
We spent our last night together in Christchurch, out for dinner and then on a wee pub crawl. It was pretty quiet in town because it was a Sunday but we still had fun. Monday morning was pretty laidback, we went for breakfast and then a smoothie (even though it's freezing!) and then it was time to go back to the airport. After a mad panic and confusion about flights, everything was fine and we said goodbye to Andrew.
Clare and I went to the cinema to see the 'Sex and the City' movie, which was really good! And then Clare left early this morning to work back in Tekapo. I'm still in Christchurch for now, who knows where I'm heading next!
