After spending a brief night in Krabi (a bit like a ghost town!) we got over to Phi Phi. Again, we had no idea where we were going to stay and bargained an 800baht room down to 600baht (Clare is definitely her mother's daughter…!) We all celebrated Easter Sunday by tracking down fried ice cream and ice cream Sundaes. The next day we walked 1000ft up some very steep steps to the viewpoint overlooking the island and soaked in the amazing views, of which the photos don't so justice (something we have found to be true of everything here!)We then took part in the Songkran festival (Thai New Year), buying water pistols and joining in with the street water fights! It was a thoroughly enjoyable, if not very wet experience! We spent the rest of the day drying out on the beach before going to Cosmic and enjoying the most amazing pizzas (a much needed break from rice and noodles!) After pizza we went for more celebratory ice cream, as that morning Helen had found out that Eric and Alex, her twin brothers had been born!
The next morning, after a night of storms we set off on a snorkeling trip to see the bays and islands surrounding Phi Phi. This included Maya Bay, where the film The Beach was filmed, and Monkey Beach, home to families of monkeys. The sights were amazing, and again, no photos can do them justice, but we did our best! The trip was cut short when one the guys off our boat jumped in and sliced his toe open on coral- it was a quick dash back to the island hospital! After an eventful day we went out with Katie and Jess for our last supper together and were sad to be leaving them after nearly 2 weeks together.
