Hanoi - Danang
A 30 hour journey to Danang on a sleeper coach. It's a good way to travel as its cheap and it's a night accommodation paid for too. We had a 4 hour stop in Hue. A Belfast guy sat near us on the coach got his Mac Laptop, IPhone and his memory stolen from a local on the coach so as you can imagine we are even more on edge now.
Arrived in Danang (yet again when dark) There was a lovely vibe from the place. A lot more relaxed than Hanoi and the local people seemed a lot more friendly.
We walked to find ourselves a guest house but stopped for food on the way. We found a wonderful little Restaurant called Bread For Life. It was a not for profit organisation run by an American lady who only employes deaf Vietnamese staff. People with disabilities in Vietnam have it extremely hard and it was so lovely to see them being given a chance for a normal life. She also teaches sign language and helps them build lives for themselves. It really touched us. 'Secret Millionare' definitely needs to be told about this place.
The Next day we decided to move closer to the beach!! Woooo hoooo.
We stayed in a quaint little guest house called Hoa's Place (thanks for the recommendation Helen, keep them coming) it's a family run guest house (very basic) and the man Hoa who owns it was the most adorable little man ever! We ate local dinner with the other guests cooked by the family and had a really lovely evening in a real special place. We feel privileged to have stayed there as it's highly likely that it will no longer be there this time next month due to big modern hotel resorts being built around it. It makes us sad to think their homes will be knocked down for investment.
We all know Shell is a little squeamish but We didn't realise how squeamish she actually was. We met a girl Zoe at dinner who was telling us a graphic story of how she fell off a bicycle and lost all her teeth. Next minute we look at shell who says it was making her feel a bit funny and her face was as grey as anything, lips White, vacant face and next minute her eyes were rolling back Ito her head. We are laughing lots now but at the time we were obviously very concerned. Me and Sarah took on the nurse/mother role wit Sarah comforting her and advising to put head in-between legs and me running around buying Coca Cola and Ritz. She soon snapped out of it and we found the funny side.
