Danang to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Apart from the man hoiking up spit and Fleming behind us, the journey was quite pleasant. Beautiful views as we drove along the coast of Vietnam, watching two sunsets and one sunrise on one coach journey. We stopped at Nha Trang for a few hours in the morning for breakfast. Beautiful part of Vietnam.
We stayed in a hotel right in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City. It was buzzing with life. We loved it and had a little balcony to sit on too.
We visited the war museum. Our understanding of the Vietnam war was a little... Slack. We now have the gist of it (with a little help from our researchers from home. Thanks) The museum was extremely sad with vivid images of the war between the North and the South Vietnam and the effects that Agent Orange had on the country. After getting our culture on for the day we treated ourselves to a night of drinks sat on the street corner. We met a local man, Dung (yes cow pat) who asked to sit with us to improve on his English. We chatted with him for the evening and found out a lot about the Vietnam culture and the war. Really interesting.
The following day we went to the Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnels were made to hide from the Americans and it was pretty insane to see. It was a shame as we were with a group of about 40 people so didn't get to go in some of the hiding places and it was quite impersonal. Sarah however CRAWLED through a big section of the tunnel (Me and Shell wimped out) It was about 6-10 metres under ground and she had to walk (army crawl) to one of the many exits. Me and shell were like proud mums standing at separate exits, not knowing which one she would appear from with our cameras in hand. She came out a little shaky but was glad she did it. Sarah's description of the tunnels were, hot, no air & clostraphobic (exactly the reason I couldn't have done it).
We had a chilled out night that evening, absorbing Ho Chi Minh City from our balcony. It was nice to be away from The hustle and bustle but watch it from afar.
