Our journey to Delhi started on a fairly sombre note as we were very sad about leaving Kerala. When we got on the train in Trivandrum, Uncle Robin, Aunty Baby and Aunty Susie spoke to a lady who was getting off at our stop in Cochin and asked her to make sure we got off there too. True to her word she looked after us very well on the journey telling us about how she was planning to move to Australia to work as a nurse. When we got to our destination she helped us find an auto rickshaw that would take us to a cheap guesthouse. It turns out there are no cheap guesthouses near the airport. The next day, apart from a 2 hour delay, our flight ran smoothly and we landed in Delhi at about 8pm.
We took a pre-paid taxi to the backpacker area and went off in search of a cheap and good guesthouse. We found a cheap guesthouse, but good? No chance. We settled on a very basic room in Hare Rama Guesthouse. The bathroom wall had a massive hole in it which I'm sure rats and cockroaches made full use of. As it was so late we had time for dinner but not a lot else. The service in the backpacker area is questionable at best and the restaurants there are so filthy that even the flies keep a wide berth. Later that evening, around midnight, Chris' friend Kenji came to join us so we could travel around the North together. We were to leave Delhi the next afternoon so we only had a morning to do any sightseeing.
On our only day in Delhi we woke up relatively early, had a pathetic excuse of a breakfast, and took an auto rickshaw to Humayun's Tomb. This beautiful tomb is an example of early Mughal architecture and is set in stunning, tranquil gardens. It's almost hard to believe how quiet it is in there compared to the rest of the City. After this visit we had a quick lunch, grabbed our bags from the Guesthouse, and ran to the train station. Luckily we made it just in time and were soon on our way to Rishikesh.

Mum If you insist on looking for cheap backpackers guest house, than you have to accept what comes with it.
Robin Story of Hare Rama backpacker! hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Daz If you don't have long in a place then it's best just to make the most of one good trip somewhere and you did that - good use of time, nice one!
Girija C K Balan Think we should experience all as, its make us somewhat adaptable to any kind of situations.
Priya I don't like writing bad things about a place but I have pretty much nothing nice to say about Delhi. The people are rude, pushy and unhelpful. I couldn't get out of there quick enough but Aunty G is right... at least I can adapt to anywhere now ;)
