Thursday was an attempted (and failed) beach day at Scarborough, the beach everyone at home had been raving about - damn you panini woman! Well, a bit unfair really, as the beach was lovely, and very good for surfing, but pretty choppy seas and very windy on the sand so neither of us especially wanted to stay here. We had travelled a good 40 minutes on the bus to find it though, so we didn't feel it was necessary to leave until we'd made the most of our trip.... and bought a burger.
Friday was a more successful, though knackering day, at Fremantle Markets. There were two main markets, and we both had different favourites. The first one was a massive warehouse with souvenirs galore, Liam bought a ton! And they say it's the girl who is shopping mad! We found some tsingtao beer - the only beer of choice in China - being sold in one of the kiosks in the market, which was instantly an invitation for a drinking sesh outside in the sunshine for an hour or so :) That night we discovered the joy of Law & Order, Medium, and CSI (Aussies are obsessed with crime TV) as we are trying desperately hard to save our pennies, and we got a dominoes pizza in and destroyed all of our hard work by the most expensive pizza on this earth.
And today (Saturday) is our last day in Witchs Hat! We're happy to be leaving (Claire has itchy feet) but apprehensive about tomorrow as it's going to take a train, then a bus to pickup, where our taxi driver has no idea what we look like, and we don't have a phone. Reassuring. Either way, today we packed, which took an absolute age. How it is possible to go from fitting everything in your 2 bags, to it spilling over a week later and using every possible plastic bag available we shall never know. We also cooked everything we had leftover in our cupboard fridge, which amounted to bowl after clingfilmed bowl of food, we have no idea what to do with any of it! Claire has an entire kilo of porridge oats left, so Liam votes flapjack in the morning. After that stress, we spent a good few hours updating the blog which was very overdue on both pictures & diary fronts, while Liam kept tabs on the Fremantle vs West Coast derby footie match (Freo won again yeahhh!!!).
On the night we paid a visit to possibly the most intimidating restaurant in the world - C Restaurant, a swanky revolving place 33 floors up in one of the skyscrapers. Our plan was to get a seat in the cocktail lounge and watch the sun go down, but our plan was foiled on two counts: a) There was a function on so the bar area had been replaced with tables, b) Another skyscraper was blocking the sun, so we didn't actually see it set, just the glow. Our luck turned when the couple sitting in the one remaining bar table left, so we stealthily grabbed it seconds later, and enjoyed a daiquiri or two as it got dark :) We felt tremendously underdressed, no jimmy choos here, but ignored it all and had a really nice last evening in the city centre. Bring on Perth Hills tomorrow!
