Hi
Well, our last greyhound bus trip - thank god, brought us to Brisbane. We arrived on Australia Day (26th Jan) and so after findng our hostel, we made or way to South Bank where we were met by hundreds of Ozzies celebrating the fact that they are Australian!!
Southbank is situated along the river that runs through Brisbane City and the atmosphere is very much like that of Covent Garden, London with its numerous markets, cafes and restaurants.
Brisbane has its very own manmade beach right in the middle of the city and so we spent some time there cooling off as the weather was so good!
On Australia Day evening we sat along the riverbank and watched the celebratory fireworks which were fantastic - the Aussies certainly know how to put a firework display together!
On Saturday we decided to visit Australia Zoo - the home of the corocodile hunter, Steve Irwin. It felt quite weird when we first walked in seeing pictures and memorials to him all over the zoo, but what a fantastic zoo he'd created. After walking around the zoo for a while we made our way to the Crocoseum, which is an arena where they hold snake and crocodile shows. Having seen shows on Animal Planet about the Crocoseum if felt quite weird being there, but the show was great and Steve Irwin even made an apppearance himself in the form of a human puppet (not sure that it was very appropriate, but the crowd seemed to think it was great!!)
We spent several hours the following day exploring the city and doing some last minute shopping before we left Asutralia and paid a visit to the post office to send home some unwanted clothes - at last our backpacks are a bit lighter!!
It was weird thinking that this was foing to be our last day in Australia, having had such a great time and although only spending 5 weeks here, it felt like a lot longer as we've fitted so much in. We'll take away some fantastic memories with us but looking forward to moving onto New Zealand and exploring a new country.
New Zealand here we come...
Hope you are all well. Lots of Love
Claire & Andy xxx
