So we left Cusco and were heading to Bolivia! Our Peru adventure is almost done!! Just one more stop.. Lake Titicaca and the floating islands..
We left Cusco at 10:15pm and treated ourselves to full cama in the bus (full lying down) for about £5/6!! Whoooaaa expensive! Ha!
We arrived in Puno at 5:30am it was FREEZING and obviously there was nothing open.. We managed to get breakfast in the ate at the station and omg it was the most disgusting looking place in the world! Probably got food poisoning! Ha! So anyway we managed to book a tour to the floating islands for 8am so we killed time and off we went!!
It was interesting.. Like actually interesting! Lake Titicaca = 160km long and 60km wide and 300m deep!
These people literally make everything out of reeds, taking the living on the reeds a bit far it you ask me! I dont think they need to use it for everythingggg!!
But yeah then they obviously try to sell you stuff, and you feel bad because they have no money etc so you buy something! I ended up with a whistle! Excellent! Really needed that! Ha!! Then we get on the 'traditional boats' to go to another floating island and get told we have to pay 10soles to go on it! We are told this by the way when we are in the middle of the lake! Ha! Two guys actually jumped in and swam to avoid paying!! Ha!!
Every three weeks they relay the top layer of reeds. And every 8 months they move the houses around the islands! Which sounds insane! And a lot of hard work! Why would you just not live on dry land, no risk of sinking there!!
But then we returned to the 'main land' and ohhh boy i then realised why they would want to live on the floating islands! Puno is a s*** hole! Seriously the worst town ive ever seen in my life! It had no restuarants that looked even remotely clean and safe to eat in! We walked around for about an hour, found no food at all, gave up and went back to the bus station where we got a bus to Bolivia!
The bus to Bolivia took about 6 hours and we had to stop in Copacabana and get our passports stamps and WALK into Bolivia. Yes thats right i had to walk from Peru to Bolivia!! It was so cool! And wierd because we lost an hour!
Peru has been absolutely amazing! We meet some awesome people who we wont ever forget and did things that we never dreamed of! Machu Picchu was definately the highlight of the whole country.. :-)
So we are now in La Paz, Bolivia. The highest city in the world, staying in Loki Hostel! So its party timeee!!
Speak soon! Muchos love.
