My final experience on a bike has arrived!! Probably the most dangerous one out of the lot too mind! Ha!
Drinking wine in Mendoza HAS to be done.. Its like eating steak in argentina or carrying an umbrella around with you at all times at home! Haha!
So off we went on the local bus (wasnt that bad.. Not too crowded) and we finally arrived in Maipu ready to start the wine tour! Maipu was just a longggg road really! And a busy one at that!! We got out and my immediate thought was that i will die on this trip! Ha!
We went to Mr Hugo to get our bikes and unfortunately forgot to ask about the tandem (tom didnt really forget he just didnt want to do it!) so that meant i was in charge of my own fate again on a bike! Haha!
We headed off.. First to the free muesem to learn about where the wine came from.. First thing i realised about my bike was that its brakes didnt work! Excellent!! It did however have a really handy basket on the front for my handbag! Least i wasnt having to do a balancing act with that as well as navigating throu traffic! Ha!
So anyway we get to this muesem and its allll in spanish.. So that was a bit of a waste of time.. We just drank the free wine and left! Ha! Onto the next place!
We decided we'd better eat before we attempt anymore wine so we went to the 'beer garden' for lunch and had the most incredible Empanardos ever!!
After lunch is when it went wrong.
We have established two things from this trip.. I dont like cycling and Tom cannot read a map!
So we are going along and meant to be turning left at some stage to go to the road with alll the wine tasting places on.. We keep cycling.. And keep cycling.. And dont take any of the 50 left turns we saw! I kept asking him whether it was this one or this one but ohh no it was always 'a little bit further' so we carried on! We were cycling for MILES! We finally got to the very end of the road and Tom then realises hes missed the turning conpletely and we are at least a mile from where we need to be! I was NOT HAPPY!!
So i took charge of the map, naturally found it inmediately and off we went..
The wine tasting was a bit strange.. We paid for the wine and what we then assumed would also be a tour.. Apparentely not. The first place just gave us wine! It was like going to a bar! It sucked! So we drank that and left! The next place was better we learnt all about how they pick the wine and how long it takes, and the process from field to bottle! It takes forever!! At least two winters!!
We then headed to a few more where we had more wine! (really starting to like red wine)
And then we went to the chocolate and liqour factory! Tom was in heaven! Ha! They gave us a selection of chocolate to try and a shot of chocolate liqour! OMG it was strong! Thought it would just be chocolate so necked it and nearly choked to death!!
We then had to head back to Mr Hugo's which i made successfully and give the bikes back!
Im glad i survived all my cycling tours this trip but i defo will not be taking up cycling anytime soon at home!
Speak soon! Muchos love.
