Thursday 24th February
Continued our slow boat trip on Mekong for another 7 hours Laos. On the way the others 'enjoyed' a local meal prepared by the boatman's wife. Myself and another tour member had the foresight to decline the offer and brought our own cheese n crackers and apple dannish. I know who enyojed their lunch the most.
We then went to visit a local school at Ban Phon Sa Vang and brought them some notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons and a ball. The kids are all really happy and that is without an x-box or TV or anything. This was followed by a trip to two caves which in total housed 4000 Budha statues (3999 too many if you ask me).
Not to self: When on informative sight seeing trips try not to look temple-ed and Budha-ed out.
Friday 25th February
Leisurely day at Kuang Si Waterfalls near Luang Prabang.Swimming in the waterfalls and visiting a conservation centre for bears. These ones were behind fences and no cuddling allowed.
Note to self: Must ask Nicola to get a bear for me as well as a tiger and a penguin (gosh this list will be huge by the end of July - get a shiffty on Nicola!)
Saturday 26th February
Up at 5.30AM today to go and feed the Buddhist monks! They walk around the streets of Luang Prabang collecting food to take back to their temple to eat. May wear orange myself tomorrow and see what I can get.
A short tuk tuk ride to another temple then off to a paper making and silk weaving work centre. Photos of paper making from mulberry leaves and silk worms obviously for the silk products.
Traditional Laos meal tonight in traditional Laos house made by a Laos lady. Before the meal her relatives tied 4 pieces of string around each of our wrists for good look. Good luck in general or good luck with the dinner - not sure but they left soon after without eating.
Sunday 27th February
Had my laundry done today for £1. I half expected to see my clothes out drying on the hedge by the side of the road but luckily my knickers were not part of todays sight seeing tour.
Don't know what happened to Sunday - most of it was spent on a 7 hour drive from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng.
Note to self: Must stay awake on coach trips to see scenery and not rely on my camera's GPS to tell me which area I have arrived in.
Monday 28th February
14km bicycle ride on a dirt track with lots of stones out to a blue lagoon for swimming and walking inside caves. It was definately a full body workout as everything shaked. Legs and bum lovely and toned.
Going cold turkey (non-intentional) on Snickers. It has been 3 days since my last bar of chocolate.
Afternoon spent on a real lazy river ( It is a good job I had lazy river training in Dubai) 3 hours of floating down the river with stops for beer. No temples or Budhas in sight :-)
Tuesday 1st March
3 hour drive to Vientiane but no chance of sleeping as I think our driver was previously employed as a roller coaster operator (after he was sacked from the Tea Cups).
Lazy afternoon updating blog and photos. Too hot to go out. Get packed ready for tomorrows flight to Hanoi, Vietnam
