We drove through lots of little towns on the way to Como.
Como was all opulence.
The villas & hotels were mostly large and made a statement. The villas that we could see at the top of the mountains surrounding the lake stood out as if to say 'look at me, money & more money'.
The streets in the old parts of Como and those surrounding 'Lago Como' were all laid with cobblestones.
The shops in the old part of town were filled with fancy clothing & expensive items. I spotted a beautiful linen tablecloth in a store window at 109 Euro which equates to about $160 - not worth it as it was only suitable for a small round table.
The cathedral 'Como Duomo' was grand. The stone & concrete features outside were intricately carved & the inside was highly ornate without being over the top. The stain glass features were brilliant and the carving in the domes and side altars were superb.
We took a cruise around 5 little towns on the lake and saw some of the villas & grand hotels up close. The tiny village of Torno was particularly pretty with its little semi enclosed boat harbour. We got to see the hotel where the Nespresso adds were made. We looked for George; however, he was nowhere to be found.
Before leaving Como we decided to have a gelato, mine was half frutti & limone and John's was frutti & banana. The limone was highly refreshing as it was nice & tart.
On the way home we purchased more supplies - one must eat & eat well while in Italy.
The little towns on the way back to Lesa (the actual town where we are staying) started looking very different. Our Nav man - Leigh decided to takeus around to the wrong side of Lago Maggiore & put us on a ferry. We abused him & turned the b***** off & worked our own way back to the camp ground.
Another item ticked off the bucket list.
