Hi everyone. Time to catch up and since we are are sea today it's a good time to do that. The night cruising to Mykonos was uneventful despite the rocky seas. We woke early to some very ominous clouds. Looking back to the sea I could see we were in for quite the storm. Dark clouds, high winds and rain coming at us sideways. The weather got so bad the ship's captain closed the gang plank and stopped passengers from leaving. Things were blowing around at the pier and the rains were torrential. After about 30 minutes they started to let us off the ship. We ran for the bus that took us into town and in the short distance from ship to bus we were soaked despite the use of umbrellas. All you can do is laugh. I just kept thinking at least it isn't snow lol. Once in town we had to find a cab. No easy task when it is pouring rain and little rivers of water are running down hill. After a short walk we found the taxi and hopped in. He was surprised to find that we didn't want to go to the usual tourist spots but rather go to a cell phone service center for our phones. Lol he looked quite shocked when we said Votophone store please! He headed up the mountain to the other side and dropped us right in front of the store. Oh but wait!!!!! What did I see next to the phone place??????? Starbucks!!!!!!!!!! Oh yes, that yummy coffee smell wafting over me as I open the car door. While Mark dealt with the cards I treated myself to a Grande Americano coffee!! It was heaven. When Mark finished getting our phones set up he asked for directions to a restaurant near by. They sent us to one across the street but it was closed. As we stood in the drizzling rain wondering how to flag a cab, a local that was in the phone store asked us if we wanted a ride back down to the town. He told us he would drop us at the best restaurant down there. So helpful and so nice he wouldn't even take any money for his trouble. We ate at this restaurant right on the water, indulging in the authentic Greek specialties of fried cheese, Greek salad, meatballs, and Mark had the biggest shrimp I've ever seen. There is a pic on FB of it. We ventured through the quant little town with white washed buildings and stunning blue doors. It was warm and sunny by this time and eventually we had to stop for a refreshment. So I choose Ouzo, when in Greece drink what they drink. But instead of the little shot glass that we would use back home, they bring us a cocktail glass 3/4 full!!! I was wondering how in the world do I drink that?? Then it dawned on me,,,,,,you sip it. Not throw it back like its a shooter but just sit, sip, and enjoy. People watching at its best. Mixed amongst the little shops are peoples homes down little cobble pathways. Each home decorated with blue doors and little balconies. Around each corner would be little tiny churches with blue domed roofs. So beautiful. It was fun just to walk around and explore this tiny little harbor town. It turned into a beautiful day once the storms had pass. We headed back to the ship but eventually came to a bar right on the pier. More people watching to do over nice cold local beers. It was long until we decided to continue taking in the view from deck 15 at the Sunset Grill enjoying our now daily ritual of drinks at sunset. Next port is Turkey with a visit the ancient city of Ephesus. Will be back later with more tales.
