A 2 hour drive out of the city to visit the stunning blue mountains - named because of the fragrance of Eucalyptus & the blue tinge from the trees! We took the 3 hour walk path, 1082 steps (counted them!) down to the escarpment, we visited the three sisters, a striking rock formation designated a world heritage site. We heard lots of weird creatures and birds, saw a very pretty Crimson Rosella parrot like bird who came out just for us! We raced to the bottom in around an hour, then took a short walk to the fernicular railway, a very steep climb up & straight back down to the music from the Indiana Jones movies - pretty scary on the way down - you could adjust the tilt on your seat depending on how terrified you wanted to be!!
From there to another cable car up & then to a third car across a very steep ravine, beautiful waterfalls & a 250m drop and an optional glass floor to stand on (we opted glass) We finished the walk with a quick sprint along the high path back to echo point - a round trip of around 3hrs 20 minutes with five miles under our belts, a quick pit stop for a much needed lunch, yummy picnic courtesy of Richard after which we walked down to a pretty waterfall for a photo opp! A blast on the kids swings (I know) and in to Leura a pretty town for coffee & donuts! We are en route home, half way back to the city, writing this to stay awake - steak on the menu this evening, then a very, very early night!
