Deb Fields dropped off our tent to Steffy's folks on Wed. night before our trip.
Day 1: Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 - Mikey and Steve (Stef's dad) went to the campsite early afternoon to set up all our tents - 3 total. After Chuck got home from work, we ate a quick dinner at home and hit the road for Sterling, MI - about 2-1/2 hours away for our camping adventure. Arrived at 10pm, unpacked our gear into our tent which the guys had already set up. Had a few beers, campfire, chips and dips. We 4 stayed up til 1am chatting and enjoying the fire.
Day 2: Sat., Aug. 29, 2015 - Got up and Cheryl made the guys a big egg breakfast with sausage, toast and coffee. The girls arrived at 9am (Steffy, her mom Vicky Heaviland, friends: Lindsey Thomas and Jennifer Golding.) They all unpacked and we were all deciding whether to go tubing on a 60 degree, drizzly weather day. After much consternation it was decided to go ahead with the tubing trip. We brought drinks, sandwiches, jello shooters and decided to brave the waters.
While it was not a picture perfect day by any means, the five hour ride down the river was not all that uncomfortable. Cool, for sure, but not to the point of hypothermia or anything like that. After many beers, jello shots, and portages around downed trees we finished the journey heading back to camp for dinner of hot dogs, burgers, fruit and potato salads. After dinner we all walked down to the community center for dancing and music for an hour. Then Stef and Vicky crashed early and the rest of us played board games, had more beers, plinked on the guitar, and generally solved the problems of the world.
Day 3: Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 - we woke up to more clouds, but no more rain. We cooked up the rest of the bacon and cleaned up whatever else there was for breakfast. Steffy took off with the girls right away to get back to the doggies. Vickie and Steve a bit later, but Mikey stuck around for a while with us before taking off. We hung around another hour, burned up the rest of the firewood and put out the coals about 1PM before heading back home. Got home safe and sound at 5pm.
