the last two days went like a flash.... too busy laying on a beach to write anything!
but there were things I had forgotten to write while we were there....
1) insect repellant man! I wondered why we hadnt been bitten much nor was there evidence of insects biting type or cockroaches in our hotel or room... thats because they hire someone to go round all the rooms spraying insecticide on the the floors and windows... I stepped in a puddle in our room... to late I had already been bitten there several times while hiding from cypriot men in a bush!
2) Lizards.... only saw one in the hotel and two at Bellapaix abbey.... never mind I will see more Im sure.
3) chips with everything... its what the English want! not us
The plane journey was the worst in my expereince of international travel, which as you know is not extensive, behind us a woman in her early thirties and her two small girls.... Indira and Andolina... lovely names.... not lovely girls... one about 3 and the other Indira 7 ish... Indira took great pleasure in kicking my seat for the entire journey.
The mum read to the children, played with them, fed them biscuits and fruit and explained on a map about her travels around the world.... she explained in great detail how a Killer whale was the same size as 20 elephants... pity she didnt explain why she shouldnt kick the seat in front of her.
We landed in Turkey after an hour and sat on the tarmac.... she continued to kick me... shortly after a forty minute lay down and then take off I took off my belt and turned around and asked with a smile on my face if she could stop icking me. The mother no apology just looked on in amazement. the wheels on the bus go round and round, dora the explorer... all were tolerable.... but the kicking was not. I didnt even mind the screaming and whining... the kicking I could not bear.... so 5 hours into our 6 and half hour journey I turned around... again with a smile on my face and calmly said.... 'I have been very patient, for the whole journey you have kicked me, next time I will ask if you can spend the rest of the journey with the cases' she looked up at me and shook her head.... so I said ...'please dont kick me anymore then'. to my amazement the mother said nothing.... in fact she didnt explain why she shouldnt kick but she did explain about the wildlife in mexico! needless to say she continued to kick bt it was in short bursts for fear of the nasty lady turning round again!
the only other memorable part of the jurney was the taxi ride to rachels.... the taxi driver (from the north), a gentleman of pension age put on a CD about 10 minutes in then proceeded to tell us that he had a dream that he could sing as well as that and he persued his dream for 35 years... of course I asked 'did you manage it?' to which he replied 'thats me sining'! oops... so we listened to an old crooners CD for 4 tracks... he had a good voice but the music reminded me of sundays with my nan! belss him.
so we are home.... I was pleased to be home... in the cold damp conditions I have grown to love!
Now for the washing and drying in the rain! but oh a lovely bath! and fresh coffee.... vikki is out now buying turkish coffee... I cant begin to describe it so try it for yourself! lush but dont drink down to the bottom and sip it like you sip tia maria from beneath a layer of cream... youwill understand why whn you taste one.
It has been a trip of a lifetime... it will take a life time to recover from the raki and brandy sour! not tomention efes beer and I cant wait to go back!
Kibris rocks!
