The adventure continues but not before I update you on things that I had forgotten yesterday.
1 got bitten on my finger the very first time I stepped out onto the balcony. So what I hear you say ... Well my finger instantly became numb then the finger next to it. Fortunately this only lasted a couple of hours.
2 the undulating hills have been difficult to navigate by day let alone night. Particularly as we hadn't brought climbing gear. The hills I am referring to are in fact the pavement, correction, the only place other than the road to walk in lapta.
3 it's 37 degrees here.
Half board dinner was a splendid meza followed by chicken in a tomato sauce with veg cooked in olive oil with rice and just for the Brits chips! the chef was astounded that I refused them politely but even more astounded when I told her the meal was lovely in Turkish . Vikki informed me that she turned to a waiter and said ' I can't believe that someone has finally learned some Turkish! She complimented my food' clearly this doesn't happen often or ever.
Raki with dinner was lush ... The last time I tasted it was with a moussaka on my 40th birthday which was a present from mum ... Thanks mum but it tastes better here.
We set off after dinner to find vikkis friend and former Pakistani head chef in the restaurant she used to work in ... Up and down the hills fir 200 yards ... We needed the beer that we were nit allowed to pay for by the time we arrived at the Punjab, where yar works during the evening. The restaurant nit the region, just in case you were wondering Rachel.
Yar was very pleased to see vikki after 10 years apart. Yar a very quietly spoken man who can speak both Turkish and English but English spoken with a far better accent than the pakistanis I know back home. We finished our free beer andset off back up and down the hills to the cabin here yar had his day job.
The cabin is just 20 yards from our hotel and vikki didn't want to go there the first night as it looked full of English! Not knowing yar was the chef. It's a little covered bar overlooking the sea... It was here we passed a few hours, a brandy sour ( my first ever and lush) then we both needed to move to alcohol free liquids but the owner of the bar insisted on me having raki as I had commented that I liked it which apparantly us strange for a woman... I drank it not wishing to offend ... Which is exactly what would have happened if we had paid for our drinks here... No one would take our money ... The owner insisted on providing hospitality for yars guests. Now we feel bad !
The owner who's name I have forgotten was a good hosts to all the guests he was up and down chatting with everyone and saying goodbye as people left. He wad quite drunk... A mainland Turk who moved here as a boy.
Yar commented that I had a funny Turkish accent ... Well I have learned from a book ad vikki only taught me rude stuff and how to tell someone to go away.
We were all talking about the changes in the seasons here, and everywhere, hmmm climate change deep stuff ... When I proudly announced that it would be cooler tomorrow and there would be rain! Thanks Rach for telling me that ... The laugh from everyone around our table could probably be heard on the Greek side . The owner , bring a gambling man , wanted to place this bet with me ... I was a tad unsure that my sister had given me good information and declined but given that I was now the object of much hilarity I took the bet ... For one smile but it must be a devil smile what ever that is.
