Günaydın everyone at home!
Adventure! Ok the flights yes flights were ok but very not BA! Moody staff oh maybe very BA ( when they are pre strike like they were the last time we flew!). The alcohol was not flowing but come to think of it nor was the water or tea or coffee! But that's not such a bad thing given the very small and very well used space commonly known as a toilet. I think members of the mile high club must all fly club class?
Any potential Might have had to bevome a fly attendant habe been well and truly scuppered by the chronic pain in my ears on the decent to lower altitudes. So two flights in one day was maybe not my best ever idea.
Our flight time was different to our tickets! Then there was a delay taking off both times ... By the time we arrived it was late ... By the time all passengers joined our coach transfer it was very late ... By the time everyone was dropped at their different hotels and it was our turn it felt like the next day.
We were welcomed well at our hotel albeit an English welcome rather than the hoz geldiniz To which I had learned an appropriate response.
We were offered a choice of rooms, how nice, me being English, of course accepted the first. Only to discover there was a problem using the door... No matter said the nice man ... I get fixed tomorrow ... You want come to your room come see me I open.
Foot note ..... The door still doesn't open 5 different people have tried , the receptionist thinks we are crazy Brits that don't know how to open doors! She is getting the technical manager to change the lock ... Er no she isn't she has just come outside to sit in the shade! Oh well they will be pleased with us at 2am when we need to get back in!
Anyway door problems aside we are having a great time , oh forgot to mention our patio door doesn't lock ! That's Turkish workmanship for ya!
Breakfast traditional Cypriot.,, the Brit old folk don't like it much .... They were fighting over the last fried egg!
We managed at least 2 hours in/by the pool this morning. Vikki had to show me what to do on those long bed things , loungers I think they are called? But I soon got the hang if it. Did I mention it's 37 degrees here?
The mist spectacular thing about here are the sea and mountain views all from one balcony! Bliss
So after a non inspiring talk from the travel rep we set off for Girne or kyrenia if you think all of Cyprus is Greek. We picked up our dolmuş or badly driven clapped out mini bus that just stops wherever and when ever it feels like very cheap and Eco friendly method of transport.
Girne is lush, very much like broadstairs but hot and nice food! I wad offered a free meal by one of the many waiters outside the many eating places but I showed him my wedding ring and said sorry. Oh did I mention it's 37 degrees? We bypassed to smaller cheap eating places in the back streets in favour of the more ecpensive and shadier eateries on the harbour. The main draw here were the outdoor fans (sorry Matthew Eco credentials out the window) and large shade.
Choosing was easy, both vikki and I excelled in our Turkish and ordered like locals! Mind you as we left I thought the waiter said alvederjeen or german for goodbye... I was most miffed at this given the considerable pain and expense I had gone to last week in order not to be mistaken for german on the beach!
we were hoping to meet up with a good friend of vikkis in girne but he called to say he was at a wedding and said we should come ... Vikki explained that is why Cypriot weddings are so big. By this point I am wrapped up like a devout Muslim not for religious observance but to prevent the suns rays catching any small part of my skin ... Do you know how painful it is to have sunburnt eyebrows! So vikki declined the invitation thus time.
We stopped for one more coffee then headed off to the castle, the 200 yard walk was like a marathon, vikki asked how I was feeling about steps... Needless to say we didn't visit the castle but I stood by the wall under am olive tree and vikki took a picture ... Maybe on a cooler day we will return.
The ride back wad adventurous as the ride there ... While squashed in , did I mention, 37 degree heat I had my most stupid thought ever .., hmmm people keep getting on and they all wear the same lovely perfume! Silly moo it's the cities trees that surround the area... Çok güzel or very beautiful.
Well that's it for now ... I can't post thus because lol the wifi doesn't work!
Off for half board dinner in a minute
