Currently in Rio Dulce, on a brief-stop on the long journey from Flores to Antigua. We've now left the Peten, on a highway notorious as a major drug-trafficking route - from the world's most murderous city, San Pedro Sula, Honduras, up to the jungles of the Mexico-Guatemala border, perfect narco territory.
The ride has mostly been a game of chicken between my bladder and my sweat glands - thirsty cos of the heat, sweating loads, but not actually doing anything so annoyingly needing to pee...ughh
From here its the long road, quite literally across the country southbound to Antigua. Going this way means bypassing the interesting mountains for endless cattle ranches, indeed the number of trucks we've seen packed with baking cattle is enough to turn anyone vegan.
We're in Rio Dulce both for lunch, which annoyingly because I only have £4 left in Guatemalan money is going to be nachos and beans (and I'm going to have to get more money out to pay the hostel/airport transfer etc.), and pick up passengers coming from a visit to Guatemala's miniscule Caribbean coastline.
Onwards we go, on my last long Latin American ride.
Vamos
