We had another long journey from Nha Trang to Hoi an, we took a sleeper bus because it was a 11 hour bus journey and for some reason i couldnt sleep even though i was really comfortable it was just the roads were really bad everytime i was just about to fall asleep the bus would hit a pot hole or something, but to befair the journey didnt seem that long as it was throughout the night. We arrived at 07:30 in the morning and it ended up being a 13 hour journey but i didnt care because we were out of Nha Trang. Hoi an seemed a really nice place you could tell as soon as we got there. I thought we'd gone to far and went to france because it looked exactly the same, probably becuase the french occupied it before so they had the same architechture built. In Hoi an we rented push bikes and went round the town, they had a really nice marina type of area with loads of bars and restaraunts along it and at night it was lit up so it looked well nice, looked abit like venice so it was weird going through asia and seeing shacks and tuck tucks and suddenly seeing all this. We road to the beach and enquired about surfing as the waves are really good there but they wanted $10 an hour so it was too expensive, we then wanted to do body boarding which was only $4 an hour but they would let us go in because it was too rough, so we just went in without borads and just jumped in the waves, was well good but the water was cold and then the security told us to leave because it was a private beach. On the way down rich stopped to take a photo as we went through the market as he did that his bike fell on his toe basically smashing it off, he was in agony and had to be taken to hosptial (He's in the wars at the moment). He said the hospital was really dirty, they even had mopeds going down the corridors. The first doctor wanted to rip his nail out all together but he didnt speak english so he didnt understand what he wanted to do so he then waited for an english speaking doctor who explained that the nail needs to come off but has to be taken out in a way so that it grows back, they injected him with 5 needles to numb it bumb he hopes they were clean needles even though he did ask an the c\doc said they were but they would say anything at this point because they were charging him $30 for doing it. The nail was taken out and he was given a load of pain killers so he's ok but with the hip as well he looks a right state.
In the nights we usually ate in the restaraunts along the river which was nice and cheap also we found a place that was selling draught beer for around 10p a pint so we were wasted o\and only spent about a pound, Awesome. There was only one place everyone went and it was called the salsa bar, that was a really cool bar, it had cheap beer, you could be your own dj by playing all the tunes off there pc behind the bar and pool and foozball was all free and it was open until ther were people still there so some nights it was open till about 5 ish, We met some really cool people there in that bar, we met these two brothers called Andrew and hue from Brisbane, they were nuts they were only travelling Vietnam with their family and hung around with us in the nughts, we also met them in Hue and Hanoi so we had some mad drinking nights with them and we said we would hook up with them when we get to oz so he can show us where to stay and go out so that should be really cool.
We did one trip from Hoian to these temples 3 hours away which were bombed during the war, it was ok but i was just bored of seeing temples especially ones where they were missing becuase they had been bombed but i wanted to go just to get out and do something as we wasted a lot of time in Nha Trang.
We basically only stayed there 3 nights and we knew we were heading for Hanoi eventually but that is 15 hours away which would be a killer journey so we decided to go to a place called Hue for a night as there are meant to be some cool stuff up there. This was the old capital city so it had really old buildings, markets, temples etc. The monk who burned himself to death in protest to the Americans died there which is the picture on the rage agaisnt the machine album. One night was enough in Hue we saw everything we wanted to see and booked our sleeper bus to Hanoi which was meant to be 13 hours so that was going to be another fun journey.
