A review of the All Seasons Hotel Pattaya
Well, this place is not really that good. I would have expected better from an international brand hotel. The property is popular with Russians and Koreans on package tours. They arrive by the coach load at any time of the day or night. This is not really a big problem in isolation - the Russians and Koreans are certainly a fun bunch - but the two hotel lifts are completely inadequate to handle 60 guests trying to get to their rooms at once.
The lifts can handle 11 people, or 750kg, at a time. This is of course 11 Thais! This equals about 5 Russians, or 4 Australians or about 7 Koreans. (It looks to me like there are no food shortages in Russia any more!) You can imagine how long it takes to clear 60 noisy Russians from the hotel foyer with only these two lifts!
Another odd thing is there is an electric jug in the room but no other coffee or tea making facilities! We were not able to work out the intended purpose of the jug. This strange and lonely electrical appliance was the subject of extensive debate and we even solicited comments from our Russian and Korean mates. Given that they couldn't understand a single word we said they were not much help.
I would suggest always traveling with a coffee mug and tea & coffee making requirements if you are like me and need that 'first thing in the morning' caffeine fix. Fortunately there is a small fridge and a basic mini-bar.
This hotel has "wireless internet" but it is slow, has poor signal strength and is incredibly expensive. In fact I would go so far as to say it is a total rip off. Be prepared to cough up big money if you wish to use your own laptop in your room. Your best bet is to use one of the many local internet cafés in Pattaya. 30 minutes of internet time will cost you 20 baht at an internet café.
The hotel has a good restaurant but this is packed out for breakfast. I am sure things would be more comfortable during off peak season. The food is ok and is what you would reasonably expect for the price. Of course there are endless dinning options outside the hotel.
The foyer area is comfortable and includes good seating, some reading material and a small bar and internet café off to the side. The drinks in the bar are reasonably priced for a hotel bar and the selection is adequate. Again you can drink outside for a fraction of the price.
The rooms are nothing special but there is nothing really wrong with them either. The showers are not that good but this is nothing unusual in Thailand. The maid service is great and the people doing our rooms were friendly and were always ready with a smile.
It's hard to objectively comment on location as different people look for different things. If you are a party animal then you are probably better to stay at say the Mercure. However the All Seasons is close to the Hard Rock Hotel - a known party location.
There is a Tops supermarket reasonably close and there are plenty of restaurants, shopping and bars around. My opinion is that one needs to be closer to the Walking Street area of town. Next time in Pattaya we will stay in the Walking Street general area…probably at the Mercure. Remember there are plenty of great hotels in Pattaya!
