I'm ready to know what the people know. Ask them my questions and get some answers. ~ Ariel
After a quick wake up call from Chris at 6:45am to say that breakfast was ready, we headed over to the restaurant. Breakfast was yummy and included toast, cereal and juice. Luckily he had some peanut butter and honey stashed away for some of the girls who were craving it. After breakfast we packed up our gear and piled it into our newly cleaned PCAP bus, cleaned and mopped generously by Ben Gay.
We drove onto Texas, approximately 56km's from Inglewood and arrived at 9:00am on the dot. Texas was an even smaller town than Inglewood, one pub, one bowls club and one friendly grocer. We spent the day at Texas State School, which is a P-10 school, the same as Inglewood State School. We took a tour of this quaint school, which has approximately 140 students and then debriefed in the staff room. From there we went into any class we wanted and the teachers and students were most welcoming. If we had to pick a class that we like the most (though it would be extremely difficult to choose our favourite...) it would be the Prep class with Miss Tracey. She had the most innovative ideas for activities and the best behaviour management skills - we were in awe!
We then had lunch from Texas Treats, which was pre-ordered and delicious! And then we continued moving from class to class. We experienced year three science and manual arts, which was most interesting for us.
At the end of the school day, we were invited to a positive behaviour meeting with some teachers that opened our eyes to a staff meeting. We then headed back to our accommodation at the Stockman's Hotel, which is owned by an ex-teacher of T.S.S. We all had a bit of a rest, ready for the bbq at the bowls club. We were in a celebrating mood as it was Ellen Baker's 22nd birthday. We mingled and ate our steak burgers (the vegetarians had salad sandwiches) and then we brought out the surprise birthday cake! Ellen was very excited and grateful that everyone had made such an effort on her birthday away from home. We had a fairly early night, after watching a bit of 'How I Met Your Mother', as it was our last day tomorrow and we didn't want to be tired. Chris and Shirley were definitely more skilled at jam-packed days, we were slowly dying of exhaustion...
