Having escaped the sweaty humidity of Kerala, at the un-earthly hour of 02.00(am) we embarked on what proved to be a marathon train journey up the Karnatakan coast to Goa - a state famous, amongst other things for its amazing beaches.
Once in Anjuna, we were not disappointed by the beach - sand and swaying palm trees stretched along the coast line as far as we could sea, with a few beach huts sheltering behind the trees. Having looked at the beach and decided that it was amazing, we hired two scooters for two days and proceeded to explore the local area, which included the ruins of a Portuguese fort, yet another deserted beach, and finally, a rather deserted wildlife reserve (where the only ammonals we saw were the odd lizard and a few butterflies!!). Of course, the scooter hiring wasn't without incident......I fell into a thorn bush when I stopped - more embarrassing than painful as it was in front of a restaurent and everyone came rushing out!! - and Laura, well she drove her scooter into a ditch!! All in all, we can't wait to hire scooters again!!
Eventually, we dethatched ourselves from amazing Anjuna and embarked on possibly the most confusing buss journey I have yet encountered, up the Goan coast to Agonda where, each Wednesday there is the famous "flea market" where, you can buy literally everything, from Saris, bed spreads and jewelry to hammocks, chairs and even antique nautical equipment...random or what?!
So, that's where we are now, in Northern Goa, heading down to the beach to relax after a day of constant hassling by the venders at the markets.......what a hard life!
Much love to you all!
