Our fab adventure
Hi folks, We arrived here in Cha-am on Tuesday evening after a somewhat interesting train Journey! When we went to the train station in Bangkok and the ticket lady said the next train to Cha-am was in 10 mins we thought we were in luck so bought the tickets and bounced on! We were delighted to hear that to get 200km South cost 36 Baht each which is 53p.Little did we know that we were getting on a train, third class, packed with Thai's who seemed to think we were their entertainment for the afternoon - looking at us for the entire trip as if we were out of a circus (or maybe they thought we were famous - who knows). Our once 3 hr trip was now 6hrs long and even worse there was no toilet on board! Yikes not good after drinking water solid for the previous days! The actual train was hilarious! It was like the ones they used to use donkeys ago out the back of Super Valu. Rock Hard seats, no air-con or even a fan. All the windows were down and strange objects from outside kept falling on top of us (twigs, bugs etc). Every 5mins the train would stop at the next station and locals came on trying to sell passengers all sorts of things - bags of food and bottles of juice , would be good if you knew what exactly they were though! The views from the train were amazing and the experience was something else! Sights varied from real shanty huts - kewl houses, then we would catch a glimpse of bare-footed farmers doing their daily jobs! When we arrived in Cha-am we were like two cowboys arriving in a dust covered town with one mission in mind, to find somewhere to stay! we strolled into the first shop we seen but they couldnt understand us so we moved onto the next victim with our non-speaking thai tongues! Language barrier proved aproblem there to! Anyways, eventually we got away from the friendly ppl and started trekking along the streets of Cha-am!Automatically we noticed how friendly the people where! It was almost as if they were delighted to see us. We couldn't find any of the hotels that were named in our bible (lonely planet book). This was the real beginning of our travelling we'd say and to be honest it was fun! We asked the first white people we seen where they were staying and they offered us to follow them to thier hotel! After a long hike allong the longest stretch of beach we'd ever encountered we arrived at our new friends hotel! A 5 star beauty! At this point we thought we had reached heaven with its shinning gates and bright lights. Ok lets face it - this place was too fancy for backpackers but after our long sweaty journey we thought hell yea lets splurge for tonight! 2118 Baht (31.15 GBP) includes breakfast! You may think a bargain but over here thats expensive! We made the most out of the fancy pool the next day as the sun does shine here unlike Bangkok! woho! Then we moved to a cheaper place the next night which was still gorg yet only 14quid a night for 2of us inc breaki!! The woman who owns it is really nice and seems to be a real Monica (Clean freak) which is always good!Cha-am is the holiday resort for thais and flock here for the weekend. Even this evening we found it a lot busier than lastnite! When we were lying sunning ourselves on the beach today (Haha) for the first time, they were preparing the town for the weekenders putting up hundreds of umbrellas on the beach, deckchairs out, room for rent signs up and even brushing the sand!To be honest there isn't a lot to see in Cha-am but its a good stop over to get to the further south island that we will be hitting this time next week probably! Tomorrow we are heading to the next town Hua - Hin which is suposed to be a bigger version of here and is apparantly most likely to get the tidy town award! We better shoot on here and get the bags packed! We'l keep yas updated, don't miss us too much guys! P.S we will have our photos up soon, we lifted the wrong usb cable and we have to get a new one now! (ok Auntie Dee) lol
