A one hour flight and we were on the Penghu Islands. We had arranged a bed & breakfast which was a 5 min drive from town. Our suite was amazing. We had booked the 3rd floor of a beautiful villa that gave us 1100 square feet and a 300 degree view. The hospitality of Maria (our host) was amazing. She brought us into town, showed us the restaurants, and even helped us rent a motorcycle.
With three and a half days to explore, we made the most of it. Leaving by early morning and racing through the islands and over bridges with jaw dropping views, we discovered several beaches and took in all the islands had to offer. We took a boat to one of the smaller islands and visited Jibei sandspit. Walking on the soft white sand felt a little like walking in snow, every step took you ankle deep. We were astonished with how tropical these islands felt, blue skies, turquoise water, and nice temperatures (27-30c).
By most days we were back for a nap around 4:00pm and we would be up and out around town for the night. Enjoying espresso and pastries at little cafes or some cactus juice (a penghu speciality) at a fresh fruit shop. The town had a surprising night life. Magong isn't full of bars, but the streets come alive at night with lights and youth. The island really holds a unique feeling that was hard to leave behind. One day we'll be back to visit Taiwans secret paradise "Penghu".
