Hi All
So again I have been terrible at keeping this blog up to date, but in my defence it is actually because I have been away every weekend for the past month. I am trying to fit in all the sight seeing before I go. You will probably see a few entries going in over the next hour or so as I try to let you all know how my trips have been going.
So about 3 weeks ago I was in Hong Kong to see my good friend Jen, it was a trip that was booked as I was due to go to see Jen in China but due to work I will be leaving Manila early so will not be able to fit it in during Jan. So, on friday night I left Manila bound for a fantastic food weekend in Hong Kong, where I was promised an english cream tea, and Jen did not disappoint!
Friday evening was pretty chilled as we were there late and literally just went to the hotel to sleep, it was awesome though as it was really near times square, so right where all the action is, and there were some amazing markets nearby with lots of fresh fruit and meats... some looked a bit unhygenic, but pretty cool nevertheless. We grabbed some nice fruit for breakfast on saturday and headed for our first sightseeing trip which was to the big buddah. Now, last time I was in HK we were not really able to get any sightseeing done as the weather was so cloudy, but I had high hopes for this trip.
After a ride on the metro we eventually reached a nice long queue to get the cable car over to the island where the big buddah is. It was absolutely awesome though, we had one with a clear bottom so you could see the long drop below. That took about 30 mins before we spotted the big buddah, hurrah! It was an amazing sight and the atmosphere was so relaxed and chilled despite the number of people, very unlike the hustle and bustle of HK itself.
We walked up the steps and took soem nice pictures, and wandered around enjoying the rather strong smell of incense. We made our way back to a nice shopping area for a bite to eat and a look around some designed outlets, I felt like I was in Bicester village again, though with different weather. Jen purchased som cooking equipment including a whisk wheras I splashed out on some ibuprofen cream for my painful knee, haha what a success hey.
Following this we headed back to the hotel to relax a bit before going out for a nice dinner in one of the traditional restaurants, We had so much nice food and I became close to mastering the chopsticks. Although there was someone worse than me at the table lol. The night ended with a Ben and Jerrys Ice Cream in the shopping centre... crazy night I know.
On sunday we got up early and the weather was soo great we could finally do the peak!!! We got the train up to the peak and then took some awesome shots, if you want to look at them they are on FB. I find its very slow to get photos uploaded onto offexploring for some reason.
Anyways following the peak we met up with some of Jens friends for some Dim Sum before topping it off with that cream tea I had been promised, a prefect end to a perfect trip! Thanks Jen
Watch out for the next installment where I will be talking about Singapore... Yes my first curry in 10 months was to be had here...
