Day twenty-three and we started it pretty slowly with a bit of a sleep in (9.00am) and a big breakfast.
With full tummies we visited the adventure company to collect some photos from the previous day and ended up chatting to the photographer for a bit too long. She did give us some great advice on what to check out and it was interesting to hear about her career and adventures.
As a result of the time getting away from us we had to break into a run through town to catch the ferry. It was worth the sprint though and we sat back and enjoyed a stunning cruise over to Spiez. Photos really don't do justice to the colors and sights on offer around Interlaken. There is something about just being immersed in the Alps that can't be captured.
There was a group of 'Fuddy Duds' on the boat that kept us quite entertained as well - fully decked out in Swiss merchandise. They were discussing the different modes on their digital cameras and crawling all around the deck trying to get good composition. I'm not sure if one of the guys was funny or if it was just his Irish accent that had us giggling.
After climbing up the hill in Spiez to the train station and getting some lunch ingredients we boarded the Golden Pass Panoramic Train heading towards Zweisimmen and Montreux. Thankfully the Swiss Pass had us covered so it didn't hurt the wallet.
Getting to Zweisimmen was pretty and the ingredients we purchased for lunch made some fantastic rolls but the views after Zweisimmen were nothing short of stunning.
The Alps and the rolling foot hills are amazing and the descent into towns like Gstaad and Montreux had Sallie even considering a permanent move.
We arrived into Montreux about 4.15pm and after some frustration with losing a Frank in the toilet door we made our way to the waterfront.
Montreux faces a lake which goes beyond the horizon and is surrounded by Alps. The city itself was a lot bigger then we expected.
A statue of Freddy Mecury greeted us and we learnt that most of Queens music was recorded in Montreux.
After wandering around the promenade for a little while and taking in some sun we decided on a picnic for an early dinner. Sallie was happy as this was the first time on the trip we'd eaten dinner before 8.00pm.
After some dips and chips we made our way to the station for the trip back to Interlaken.
