Day fifteen started on a good note due to our best sleep for the trip so far. The beds and pillows at Ca' Fontanea are fantastic.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast, although a bit on the light side, the quality was great. The hot chocolate also rivals that which is served at Cape Paterson Caravan Park.
After filling our stomachs we stepped outside to find the skies overcast and a bit of a chill in the air. I raced back inside to grab a jumper while Sal checked the forecast. Rain was on its way.
We decided to do a gallery in the morning in the hope of the rain blowing over while we were there. We chose the Galleria dell’ Accademia as it houses some of Da Vinci's finest. Unfortunately after racing around all the exhibits to find it, we were told it is only displayed on special occasions as it's extremely fragile and can only handle a certain amount of light! Makes solving the code a bit difficult.
So after this disappointment we went back out into the rain and chilling wind to race to a water bus. These are a great way to get around and see heaps, especially in the rain as they are covered. We did a full loop of the Grand Canal and then decided to visit the Doge's palace.
And what a massive building it is! Puts City Hall in both Melbourne and Geelong to shame. Some of the rooms are just absurd in size and the decorations in a few would challenge even the apartments at the Vatican.
The weapon collection on display is impressive also. I'd hate to see the guns on the men who swung some of the massive swords we saw. Even Big Bazza may struggle with some of these.
After we left the palace the miserable weather had subsided a bit. We wandered around and smiled at all the people who had purchased cheap umbrellas that had not lasted. Like magic the African handbag salesmen turned into bad weather merchants when the dark clouds set in.
We found our way back to the B&B and changed into something more suitable for a coolish night. We then took another water bus over to Lido to have a look. After strolling the streets and stocking up on some treats we made our way back for dinner.
We won't mention the restaurant but I had some dog food for dinner while Sal enjoyed some soup with vegetables floating in it. The staff were friendly though and chucked in a free edible cup cake so it finished off ok.
We headed back to go to bed with the intention of making the most of some forecast sunshine in the morning.

Andrew Get some plans of this Doge Palace. I'll see if it can go in the next civic accommodation newsletter.
