Day nine was the last day of Santorini and the first day of Rome. We took in the glorious view from our hotel for the last time, ate some breakfast and made our way to the airport.
Getting through the miniature airport in Santorini was easy. The only issue was forgetting about the 200ml sunscreen in my bag, which we had just bought the day before. Somehow we got through the scan. 100ml of liquid is the limit for carry on. We figured we would deal with it once we got to Athens.
Definitely the quickest flight ever and we even got a drink! With only a 40 minute layover we quickly made our way to the next flight. Unfortunately this time, the basically full bottle of sunscreen worth 15€ had to go in the bin. Was extremely annoyed with myself for not thinking about it earlier and putting it in my checked luggage.
On we boarded for another fairly quick flight. This time lunch was served and it was pretty good. Very happy that we could save on lunch money! The flight was pretty good except for the end where we endured a good amount of turbulence - the head did not likie! Was feeling very headachy and couldn't wait to get off.
Buongiorno Roma!
Getting to the train at the airport was very easy. A little pricey for the short ride but convenient. Signs everywhere about pick-pockets so it became a game of cat and mouse.
Rome termini was a bit scary. So many dodgy people who were clearly standing around hunting prey. Selecting the appropriate window of opportunity and preparing to pounce!
So we quickly made our way out. In the rush and avoidance of so many people we stupidly got on the correct numbered bus but it was going the wrong way so nearly an hour later in peak traffic we did one very big loop and finally arrived at our hotel.
The hotel was extremely modern with very helpful and friendly staff. We settled in and went for a wander. The hotel is about 20 minutes by bus/tram from most attractions and is close to Villa Borghese.
We found a great tavern for dinner called Rossini. I chose a tomato gnocchi and Ry dived head first into a calzone, the first of many to come! He's been going on about calzones for months so it was no surprise. He actually let me try a bit and I can understand his enthusiasm.
We headed back to the apartment and prepared ourselves for a few big days.
Sorry we are behind with our updates, hopefully we will have all of Rome knocked off tonight. We've been pretty busy trying to get around to see everything.
Signed
Pasta and Calzone!

Matt Ah, yes good old Rome termini, has to be the worst train station in Europe I have visited! Although Madrid follows close behind.
