After waking up and enjoying yet another Bagel and Cream Cheese for breakfast (in my defense this one was a sesame seed and onion bagel), i decided to head off and explore the streets of brooklyn whilst nanna and poppa were getting pampered! I didnt want to travel to far as ive heard some parts of brooklyn can be extrememly dangerous so i stayed within a 2km radius of the hotel. Something i had always wanted to do was get my nails done in america, and although i had ES NAILS L.A. on the bucket list, i thought i might as well hunt around Brooklyn for a salon and have a pampering day myself. I found a place online that had great reviews and coinsidentaly wasnt too far from the hotel. I decided to venture out and follow my google maps to find this place. although i had to ask some people for directions on the way, i eventually came across the salon which was modern but at the same time reminded me of Bali decor. I first got a french tip pedi and massage before heading to the other side of the room where i got a manicure. I found a photo on instagram of a nail design that i instantly fell in love with and although it seemed very intricate and tricky, the lady pulled it off perfectly. As i got distracted by making small talk with the lady, i had lost complete track of time and realised id been gone for almost 3 hrs! Oh s***, nana and popa will not be impressed! In fact, theyre probably stressing! I quickly paid the salon (with a generous tip of course), thanked all the staff and basically ran back to the hotel. On my way, i came across nanna who was already searching the streets to find me. she looked disappointed at first but i showed her my nails, explained the story and it was all good.
After a day of pampering and exploring the beautiful hood of brooklyn, we decided to find a nice pizza joint. We asked a local couple on the way where we could gind a really good pizza place and whilst the man was really generous and searched up the nearest one on his phone, the girl was extremely rude and didnt really want a bar of it. We ended up going to a small pizza shop up the road from the hotel and the man working there was extremely nice. We had a really good conversation with him and the pizza was delicious too. Although we were pretty full after the big slices of pizza, we had been wanting to try the frozen yoghurt place near the hotel that we had been walking past every day. I loved fro yo in america and couldnt wait to introduce it too poppa. So we went there and were absolutely loved by the workers. They were young african americans who loved our accents and were amazed that we were from australia. They couldnt stop asking questions and were so friendly and chatty. I remember thinking at that point, 'oh my god :| this is our 2nd last day and leaving is the last thing i want to do. look at these people, theyre all so friendly and welcoming. I will 120% be back here one day'
The yoghurt was amazing and after a slice of pizza as big as my head, and fro-yo that weighed more than me, to say i was full would be an understatement. On the way back to the hotel, we went into Brooklyn Industries and i took another look at the leather bag i had fallen in love with a few days ago. Although it was $230, i had never felt like i needed to by a BAG so much in my life. It was beautiful and i couldnt not get it. So nanna and poppa put $100 towards it and now the precious thing is mine :D i love it so much and have no doubts that it was worth it. Back in the hotel i went up to the room, chucked on my bathers and went for a spa, sauna and swim. A great way to end yet another perfect day!
I still aboslutely love brooklyn but am getting a bit home sick and missing everyone. I cant believe after almost 2 years of saving and 6 weeks of actually living my long a waited dream, theres only 2 days left before we depart back to australia. I guess ill just have to make the absolute most of the last few moments i have here in the usa. :')
