Los angeles take two...and yet again, it didnt fail to impress :)
Today i started the day early with my first real american cream cheese bagel from a little cafe on sunset blvd. and while i have had bagels before, this one was by far the best. Then we did the one thing you cant leave hollywood without doing; the celebrity homes tour. Not only was it surreal to see the houses (or should i say mansions) that belonged to those including Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, Jackie Chan, Justin Timberlake, Micheal Jackson (the house he rented and was found dead in) and so many more, but the hollywood hills themselves had so much to offer. Words cannot describe and photos do not do justice of how beautiful the views are up in the hills. In one direction you see the hollywood sign and in the other you see the city but everything inbetween is so dreamlike and like nothing ive ever seen before.
After a long cruise through the Hollwood Hills we arrived in Beverly Hills and once again, i was so stuned at how surreal and beautiful everything was. Although i loved it, Beverly Hills seemed a little out of my league as everything was unfortunatly out of my price range..only by $2000+ And as i learnt from today, each suburb is so unique and different in its own way. The atmosphere in Hollywood is as you'd expect, very touristy with bright lights, familar faces (and by familar im talking spider man and marilyn monroe), beverly hills has that rich, classy vibe to it, santa monica is where you feel the californian sun & vibes really hit you and the hills are so peaceful and away from everything yet the only place you can really appreciate LA for what it is. Oh and i also realised one thing i must remember for the next seven weeks: americans are of two extremes and two extremes only. They are either the friendliest, helpful and nicest people or the rudest, most arrogant snobs you will come across. Although today i met some pretty cute guys..there was the tour guide, then there was the rich guy i made eye contact with as he was pulled up at the lights on rodeo drive (in his car worth more most australian houses) while i was crossing the cross walk and lastly the sweet guy from Newport who i chatted with lining up for the fitting rooms in urban outfitters down at the pier. It just added some 'sparkle' to my day ;)
Anyway, it got to about noon and the tour guide dropped us off at metro net stop 417 to catch the bus down to Santa Monica. I didnt realise how far it was but an hour later we arrived in the heart of santa monica. Although i had promised myself no shopping today and purposly left my money at the hotel, within 2 hours i was in debt $200 with nanna. But im not going to lie, it was so worth it! i bought five amazing dresses and came across possibly the best store ive been in (my new favourite; Brandy Melville). However we didnt go there to shop, we went to experience the californian coast and we sure did! The beach and pier were both just how i hoped they would be. Even though it was a bit too cold to swim, there was still plenty to do. Including a roller coaster that i went on with nanna (she freaked) haha but it was all so much fun. At lunch i was mortified when i decided to get a little fruit salad (my idea of a healthy lunch) after that big bagel breakfast...however it didnt take me long to realise the fruit had been soaked in lemonade, on yaaa USA!
Just as we were heading back to the bus stop we saw a group of people crowded around a tall negro guy and much to nannas dismay, we discovered the attention was not on the guy himself but the three metre snake wrapped around his neck. But i sucked it up and decided i wanted to hold this beautiful and at the same time terrifying thing. Im so glad i did! It was incredible, he (im pretty sure the snakes name was snoopy) was so heavy but so friendly..if thats possible. The scariest part was when it would slither and i would litterly feel the muscles of the snake push up against my neck and the skin scraping on my arm. Of course i had to tip the guy but hey, it was possibly the best $3 ive spent.
By the time we got back to hollywood it was getting pretty late so we decided to go to dinner and i chose the Hard Rock Cafe...great decision! The atmosphere was so alive and the waiters were fantastic, our main waiter was the make up artist for the new fast and furious movie (seven) which has begun filming. The meal was so good, unlike last night it wasnt HUGE, but enough to keep me satifsied. (Salmon & Rice with broccoli and garlic butter)...oh and this was followed by a massive Apple pie & caramel ice cream sundae that we all shared, perfect way to end a perfect day!
I cant wait until tomorrow, something tells me its going to be a great day...
